What is a PCU?

Im new to rp, and this term comes around a lot. Can anyone explain to me what does it mean?

It’s a roleplaying community that’s been demonized for having RP standards. You will often see people saying “PCU bad” or “I don’t RP with PCU” or “PCU = No”, and while they have the right to choose who they want to roleplay with, a lot of the hate for the PCU is based on misconceptions and assumptions.

They’re not perfect, but they’re not at all a hate group, even if the person at the head of it might have some kind of controversy attached to his character. The PCU has good people and not so good people in it, but a lot of people usually hyperfocus on the bad, and ignore the good.

To sum it up, the PCU (which stands for Perroy [name of the head guy] Cinematic Universe) is a group of roleplayers who are associated with made up drama. That’s basically the meat and potatoes of it.

As a sidenote, as far as I am aware, the name “PCU” wasn’t one the lead guy came up with himself. It was originally used as a sort of mocking moniker, but then they decided it was funny and catchy enough, so they turned the joke into reality.

Its a huge rp community, and with any community, especially a huge one, you get good and bad, all my rp interactions with them have been nothing I can complain about to say the least, Ive enjoyed every interaction in rp, had my arguments on the forums sure yeah, but all good as far as ingame, you get good and bad in every group really.

Basically pcu is an rp group made from many smaller groups?
And if pcu has certain rules, smaller groups need to adjust to it to be included.
Something like European Union irl?

I’m not in PCU. Nor do I have anything against them (or anything for them.)

PCU stands for Perroy Cinematic Universe last time I checked. Perroy is some geezer on the Horde. Pretty sure the name is tongue-in-cheek but exploded.

They’re a group who host really fun cross-faction RP and mass RP-PVP events with their vast network of friends and guilds that now span both sides of the server.

You will see a lot of people saying things like “ignore PCU.”

PCU is a huge community and like any community they have some morons in their midst. The worst accusations levelled against them are doxxing and straight-up harassment. They have strong policies against ERP and anything that breaks ToS basically - that’s undisputed.

Others have said they have policies that go further than this. That they try to police what RP should look like. That they use their network to bully and make RP intolerable for those who do not conform.

I’m confirming and denying none of this. There are good points and bad.

The people you should ignore are the ones who tell you to ignore PCU, and those who tell you to ignore anyone who says anything bad about PCU.

Keep your nose clean; stick to ToS; interact with everyone in good spirit until they prove to you (not your guildies or mates) that they are not also acting in good spirit.

Make your own decisions.

And most of all, have fun.

Nah, they rp with ppl who arent involved, I had a fight with them me n my buddies last night on an alt, between Elwynn n Redridge, but yeah a collection of groups/guilds, not bad rp’ers though from what Ive seen, and in the disc I was in, I enjoyed their company, but thats as far as I’ll go for that, you get good n bad everywhere.

As others have said: it’s a term that stands for an RP community with specific rules and views about role-play.

A lot of the wider community is divided about them due to the fact that drama/toxicity occurs a lot when they are involved with other groups.

This is, strangely enough, a rumour which Perroy has taken a lot of care to divulge himself.

Troll post and people are falling for it

I don’t mind if it is. I try not to preemptively decide what is and what is not sincere. If it is, then I lost nothing from it, other than 3 minutes.

Maybe. But I didn’t know who PCU was either before I trudged through the army of dramaposting to fathom it all out.

If there’s anyone out there genuinely curious but too scared to ask the forums, now they know.

Funny enough when pressed to show evidence of this, more often than not you won’t get shown it…

Personally I’m of the opinion that one should form their OWN views on others instead of feeding off the first thing you hear.

This is also very sound advice to live by.

Can’t go treating EVERY question about the PCU as a troll post, kinda gives off a rather rude vibe to instantly assume it’s a troll when it could very well be a genuine, innocent question.

I am not sure about this, I have seen them previously on the forum asking genuine questions.

He asked about guilds for his two characters and both threads got PCU tagged suggestions posted. I quite honestly think that if he isn’t that experienced at using or reading the forums he missed the megathread and the other topics concerning them.

‘Naming’ and ‘shaming’ is against forum rules, regardless of the cause or intensity of the evidence. You may as well accuse people of knowing the terms of service and abiding by them.

Oh no I mean more in game on trade chat, I’ve literally only seen it in droves there compared to the forums, probably should have been more specific, my bad.

In the simplest terms, it is a community of RP guilds that want to have easy and cool interactions with each other while adhering to some very simple (and really, basic decency) rules that mostly amount to “don’t break the ToS and don’t cause trouble willynilly”.

The tight communication between the guilds and their officers has allowed for some massive and drama-free events which I enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, greatly.

To comment upon the “Ignore PCU” crowd found on Argent Dawn (Mainly Alliance):

The grand majority of these individuals, when asked about “why do you ignore the PCU” will throw out the claim that “PCU are fascists”, as if that is a valid argument about a community of RP’ers on an MMO. When you thereafter inquire “How are they fascist” they will either reply with:

  1. Something that does not fit the definition of fascism (utter clown world)
  2. Regurgitate COAD (Who themselves are infamous for labeling anything and anyone they don’t like as plain “fascism”)
  3. Buckle and respond with some non-answer and then refuse to elaborate, giving absolutely zero justification for using such a label

A disproportionate amount of the people running around with “Ignores PCU” also happen to be people you’d find lurking around Goldshire with the most vile of (insert links to a certain site) and otherwise engage in something that has no place on a PG12 game (and will defend the activity, as well as engage in it openly)

In the end, many of them do not care for who are actually part of the PCU. If they do not like you for whatever reason (usually OOC reasons) they will simply cry to the high heavens that you/your guild are “PCU” or “Crypto-PCU” (as I’ve been told many times) and refuse to elaborate.

Shortly put; a very large portion of the “Anti-PCU” crowd either go by what others tell them, do not bother to check into the claims certain cliques make (believing it blindly) or simply just… Hate the PCU without much reason. They just do. Sadly some of them go far enough to join the groups that continue to spread these false claims (“”“If you say mean things about the PCU they will show up on your doorstep and beat you up IRL buddy”“”)

Every community has some bad actors or rotten apples, in the end. But there’s a stark contrast between possibly having some odd fellows compared to that of outright slanderous claims/harassment.

I know who I’d rather interact with, in the end.

Yeah these lot are infamous with ‘keeping up to date’ on PCU and will post pretty much ANYTHING concerning the PCU.

Even going to lengths as to call people who don’t constantly call the known PCU folk out on the forums ‘PCU drones/alts’

I have been called such by them, which is laughable considering I have not once stepped into one of those guilds…
But I find the ones I’ve interacted with to be respectable folk OOC.

Just don’t get caught up in any mess between PCU, or even PCU-friendly, folk and anti-PCU folk. It’s not worth it.

Some in this thread say to go by your own observations instead of believing what you’re told by others. I have personal experience in being publicly ousted from my last RP community when I in fact did that.

There’s rotten apples on both sides, but the majority of the PCU are good people and most importantly good RPers. Just avoid the mess.
