What will official HC be like?

The obvious change will be that it’s not running on the “faith” of players or verifying deaths by addons, but if you die you won’t be able to res at all, I assume.

Now what about the rest?
Pvp servers? Would be insane salt, who gets out first, stream sniping, off game communication and plotting, grouping up etc.

Then the question of team helping, there’s no way the official mode will disable players abilities to chat or emote, so you can just cheese it and wait for others to help you out with anything. No punishments available except the judgemental stares of other players, who cares?

Dungeon access, are you allowed back in to farm stuff after being overleveled?

Can you trade? Not if you’re allowed, but can players technically open trade windows at all?

Can you use the AH and mail box?

What are the rewards? Only clout? Any title, mount pets, mtx sets, anything?

Are the ladder scores based on /played time? Any other metrics?

So many questions…

I’m 100% sure a lot of decisions are going to upset the community no matter which way the devs are going to settle with.

All of which will be answered in due time.

You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time

A lot of the original HC rules exist to prevent interference from non HC players, so on a server where everyone starts fresh at the same time that doesn’t seem like it will be a problem.

Honestly my expectation is that the whole thing will be awesome at the start and then maybe as an endgame economy forms (If it ever does given the risks endgame hardcore carries) things get a little muddier and the community needs to bring back said restrictions to preserve the integrity of the challenge. I don’t think it’ll be necessary in the beginning at all though and the idea of teamwork + HC seems pretty awesome.

I don’t know why the original rules are so against trading, because it’s still really easy to die, and even a lot of geared and skilled players keep dying, which should remove all the items from the realm in official hc. So that’s a healthy time and money sink imo.

Don’t see any problem why there couldn’t be any boosting.
What if someone gives your warrior crusader enchants or rogue fiery daggers? Sure it will speed your leveling up to like 20 or even 30, if you keep reapplying them on new weapons, but how expensive does that get, how do you cover the huge gold cost.

Trading and teamwork should absolutely be a part of official.
There’s no need to force players to snail from 1-30 because there’s a million ways to die, one bad pull, one wrong step off a cliff. It’s not like trading stuff makes anyone immortal.

Having a escort service is what seems immoral and problematic to me.
Not sure how the tagging + exp penalty works, but I guess something like if you deal 50% of the mobs life the more exp you get? Still kinda big cheese if you have some private team fully buff and heal you after every pull to boost your clearspeed over 500% no breaks and you get no shared exp penalty. I wouldn’t say they should ban it or disallow, just seems kinda iffy.

But all this doesn’t matter till we know what the rewards are.
If there are absolutely no rewards super unique one in a million mounts, then who cares? Allow everything. Nothing matters at that point.
“User45346 is first to reach lvl 60” yaaaay everyone claps, now what?

Because the original rules were designed for servers that didn’t just have HC players. The point of HC is that it’s an adventure you undertake using nothing but the clothes on your back and what you can find, not what someone else who exists outside of the HC restrictions could find for you.

Agree completely. Which is why I like that they haven’t taken all the original HC rules on for the server.

You’d probably be better off having this discussion in Classic section of the forums.

You should be able to move the topic if you edit it and choose a different forum.

This was the blue post announcing Hardcore.

I’m sure they’ll announce more info as and when. You may even find they have something to present at BlizzCon about it.

Yes I forgot to ask, reason why I posted here and not in classic forums, though it reads in the posts “coming to wow classic”… why not bring HC to retail? Could be worth at least entertaining the idea a bit? Pvp disabled, dedicated hc server. Lots of mount/pet/mtx rewards for reaching certain levels and specific achievements?

Might be an interesting idea in Retail too. I guess we’ll have to see how it goes in Classic.

Yea but how would you enforce it? What punishment? How to verify that you got “helped”?
Someone heals you when you don’t ask for it, oops now you must delete your char? It’s just impossible.

It’ll just be normal WoW except you delete if you die, maybe a buff similar to soul of iron if you hit 60.

I can’t see a world where Blizz would invest any resources beyond making you delete your character if you die. At best they’ll disable PvP all together and do something about the mob leashing but I can only assume they’re of the opinion that since everyone is hardcore people won’t grief in the same way they grief on unofficial hardcore.

Well, raid nights would be a lot shorter and dungeons would mostly be “run for your life!!!”.

Chromie time should be turned off and content played in the chronological order, which would be really hard to implement now. 1-10 classic, -20 outlands, -30 wrath, -40 cata, -50 panda, -60 wod, -70 legion, just no way to have a clean playthrough with the retail content being so messed up and chromie time heavy.

Or just have a restriction, only classic/cata areas accessable, 1-60 and then you can go DF to 70? I don’t know retail is just too messy for a straight HC mode.

Guess the only way is to leave it as it is now with chromie and let everyone do what they want, level in any timeline?
