What would make the alliance more popular?

well alliance on wm is interesting. Horde with wm on is boring its like you doing pve against your will, as an alliance main i had to double check if my warmode was on cause i was walking and walking and the closest thing i found to be alliance is legends that noone believes in orggrimar of seeing one. Finding an allie is like a quest itself (imagine actual trying to look for the enemy) i know some allies here cant even compreend the “trying to find your enemy” like what do you mean? find gang less than 6 ? no buddy im talking finding just one…

More balanced racials. Right now Alliance is way better in high end PvP so all top PvP players have their mains in Alliance while everything else is better in Horde. The solution is give powerful PvE racials (maybe make them even a bit stronger than horde ones because if they would be equal people won’t switch) and buff some PvP racials for Horde (other than orc).

Nerf Orcs and Humans in PvP.

Not seeing any solutions from you except some cheap sarcasm .
Soon there will be no alliance and everything will be cross-faction . I couldn’t care less .

You call your demands “sollution” for real i see…
Thats why you fail to understand sarcasm is the only answer you can get.

Only because Tolkien made people think so. In our real life myth and legend, Elves are far closer to Blood Elves than they are to some Legolas fantasy.

Quoted for truth.

That would undeniably help matters.

Then make them care. “Don’t care was -made- to care” as the UK axiom goes. This may change when Void Elves get the new skins. It wouldn’t change my mind, I -like- the fact that the Horde gets Elves from myth and legend, and not cheap Legolas rip-offs. Give Void Elves better hair options to go with the skins. If people want their LotR fantasy, let them have it. It won’t fix the problem overnight, but those who just want a pretty race, and don’t care about lore, might well change over.

Sethrak and Furbolg’s I can see working, Naga, nah, They’re not going to join a faction that has Night Elves in it, and the Night Elves wouldn’t put up with it either. Plus they would be a nightmare logistically to make work, Mount animations? Forget it, Armour? you’d only see their breastplate, gauntlets, pauldrons and possibly helm. It just about works with those races on those factions that don’t wear shoes, a race that doesn’t wear shoes, because it doesn’t have legs, doesn’t wear leg armour, because it doesn’t have legs, and therefore doesn’t need a belt to keep said leg armour up? Can’t see it working…

Yeah, this, what is cooler, playing a Boy Scout, or playing the bad boy who chain smokes, drinks bourbon and has a motorcycle?

Give the Alliance some -teeth- basically.

How damaged are you? Seriously, what is wrong with you?

Yeah, what -is- it with those people, like, how do they think they are helping at all with such attitudes?

Yeah, but they’re actually like proper Elves. Also the ‘Red Alliance’ meme was coined long after Blood Elves joined the Horde, and was more to do with characters like Thrall and later Baine.

Why didn’t the Blood Elves and now Nightborne step in?

Can you imagine the howls of indignation from the knuckledraggers who think all Horde have to be ‘ugly’ races to be in charge? I mean they clearly haven’t read the lore, or even the myths their races are based upon, but can you imagine the screaming and tears if Thrall had turned around to Lor’themar and said “You’re right, we need a new Warchief, you should be it”
People who don’t understand what the Horde is would scream the house down. To be honest they’re the sort of players the Horde doesn’t actually need.

I agree half way, up to the Tyrande point. She would. Turalyon wouldn’t. Can you imagine the domestic in their house:
Alleria “What the heck do you think you are doing?”
Turalyon “It is the only way”
Alleria “What, killing off 90% of my species when the rest of us don’t have a sufficient genetic stock to remain a viable species?”
Turalyon “Sacrifices must be made”
Alleria hands over a knife. “OK, Arator is just downstairs, you want to go shiv him up, or shall I?”

Alliance already has the best racials though, and the raiding guilds can’t think for themselves, but have to be told what to think by Streamers.

Tolkien butchered legend and myth to make Elves some fantasy good guy staple, they were never like that. They do fit there if you can get your mindset out of Tolkien and Warhammer.

What if your female character is a Footman who actually does look like a tomboy?

I think you must live in a very different place than I do. I have seen such people (not belittling sex-workers) and they do not resemble any of the female options. A Nightclub me and my friends used to frequent every Thursday night bordered the local red light district, and the working girls there knew as as regulars to that club (It wasn’t -that- sort of club, just it had a good rock night) and they were always friendly and never tried to solicit any business from us, just going “Off for the metal night are yez?” “Aye, hoping its good tonight” “Well, have fun lads”.

None of them looked like the new human face customisations.

That…already happened, quite a while ago. It was the Expansion that time forgot, where kit didn’t match, and everyone looked like a clown at a children’s birthday party until you got the high end stuff. Also, I thought people just wanted Classic, with no changes? Did they think they wanted it, but actually didn’t?

This is starting to smack a lot of “Give Night Elves more stuff” rather than what would make the Alliance more popular? I could be wrong, but everything so far has been Night Elves or Void/High Elves. I’m not sure that’s the way to go.

Better writing, more compelling plot, an ability for the playerbase to be the bad guys for once (The last few times the protestation had Blizzard change the storyline and even the names of mobs) Why -not- have the Alliance try to impose “one world order” on Azeroth, only to fail? Why does it always have to be “Horde does bad thing, Alliance hits back, Alliance wins, Alliance forgives Horde.”

Why not the other way around for a change?

Give the Alliance some Teeth! Let them be the aggressors for once, let them be the proactive faction and the Horde be the reactive faction!

At this stage Alliance has better racials, has some interesting races, but it lacks storytelling. I mean Horde story isn’t great “Warchief goes mental, has to be removed” was old even during the WC games, it being done twice in WoW is just ridiculous, So give the Alliance something more compelling, more gritty, something with steel and grit behind it.

Better aesthetics, you know what looked amazing? Anduin at the very start of the BfA cinematic, in his gilded armour with the lion’s head helm.

That looked amazing. Have the Alliance trick out a unit like that, like King Xerxes’ ‘Immortals’, in fact you’ve already got them, the Seventh Legion. Trick them out like this obscenely feared praetorian guard almost, all steel and Lion’s helms, have them be fearsome.

And then…

Make that kit obtainable to players.

Better attitude players. Also some cute races like Vulpieras should never have been existed on horde. Alliance shifted sides for them.

I mean, even good guys can be cool, but not the same way the Alliance is depicted.

Think batman, superman, aquaman, edgy anime protagonist, etc.

In WoW, the Alliance can do no mistake, can do no evil and can be ultra… ULTRA stupid yet somehow it turns out good for them in the end… like storming into lordaeron with no gas masks, and worse storming the throne room and getting trapped, but somehow they get out unscathed.

These kind of clichés are just horrible, you’d expect some military tactics, smart thinking, good decision making etc etc but no.

The smartest thing the Alliance have done was basically draw out the horde to Naz’mir in order to attack the zandalari capital, but even that can be argued whether it was a stupid move or not.

Right now an Alliance soldier can go out and randomly kill some horde family but it’s okay because in reality they were evil necromancers plotting to take over the world.

Ways to give alliance teeth:

Make nelf actually massively territorial again. Let’s have some of that guerilla warfare.

Up the exposed anti between tauren and dorfs. Now that the dark Iron are in tow (and they’re far less morally stuffy) have them doing stuff like wrecking or attempting to wreck sacred shamanistic sites for the horde so they can mass produce more elemental slag. This would make them the “bad guys” versus tauren etc defending their lands and sites.

Up the exposure on gnome/mechagnome military tech given its a big part of their race. Weapons testing sites, or even as dark as mechagnomes testing out new potential mechanisation s by trying to kidnap horde civilians (or those allied with horde) to use them as test subjects before “Gnomish testing”.

A conflict was introduced between LFD and trolls, with LFD going on about them being blasphemers. Push this further.

The issue is most alliance narrative is pushed by humans and because they’re the “everyman” they tend to lack teeth because they represent averages (yet excel, but whatever).

The alliance has races full of different idealisms. Gnomes with their tech vision, dwarves with mastery of the earth and the past, nelf with conserving the wilds and Draenei with religion. Just make them go out and push these agendas once in a while

I understand.
But really I will never understand how Blizzard thought this was a good idea.

My point of view, is on one side you have players that want War and they don’t care for reasons or justifications.
That’s why Sylvanas and Garrosh are celebrated.

On the other hand if you do care for:

  • Thrall founding principles of giving quarter, to both allies and enemies.
Moving away from the fel infused Orcs past.
  • Tauren/Highmountain Tauren.
Which is usually connected with the ancestors and preserving the land.
  • Darkspear Trolls.
Their culture is more around living in the Echo islands and the Loa, especially Bwomsamdi.
  • Blood Elves.
People that lost 90% of their people and should prioritize rebuilding their lands.
  • Nightborne.
People that went through a lot under the Legion domination, probably more concerned in rebuilding their society than joining more conflicts.
  • Vulpera, nomadic people.

Just to give some quick examples, than you will find yourself in the opposite side pretty quickly.

Blizzard should had either went to the conflict path and changed Thrall Horde to Garrosh Horde and stayed in that path, if they wanted to build faction conflict.

Or

Start building a different Horde based on the values of each race of the Horde.
In which the majority isn’t fit for Warmongering.
If the Blood Elves and Nightborne have to be in the Horde their influence should be felt. As they are races with thousands of years of experience administrating cities.

What Blizzard was thinking with this narrative is beyond me.

If a player likes War, they would obviously live Sylvanas, the burning of Teldrassil and hate how the story ended.

If you prefer a proper reason to go to War, than this story just looks like another villain batting, moment.

There’s too many different perspectives on the Horde and making them clash with each other in BFA was a bad idea.

The way I see it, this should had ended with a civil war once it was clear that different parts of the Horde, stand for different ideals and splitting up at the end of the expansion.

This is what happens when they mix up characters like Thrall, Baine with Garrosh, Sylvanas.

But in Blizzard’s eyes, we are probably one happy red community screaming:
“For the Horde !” At Blizzcon.

Red and Blue. Two colors.
Just like this narrative: black and white.

Cheers.

They would if it was a faction of naga that had been opposing Queen Azshara and were given in a modified form.

I agree with you though wrt to the naga as they are now, they won’t join or be accepted by either faction in there current form because of the night elves in both factions, so they’ll have to be modified to make it.

Some nouveau naga, like they were able to regain a modified elf form after N’zoths defeat and a few unexpected revelations and new directions and/or rival group opposed to Azshar (or a few unexpected things about Azshara that forces us to have no choice but to ally with the naga she has now transformed somewhat into this modified form. A modified version would do…

I’ve been a fan of the Nazdorei concept as an allied race of two forms, an elven one with naga features, and a full naga form - you can use either at will, but in water you will auto shift into full naga.

And very well said. Indeed.

Alliance doesn’t need to be a morally grey faction, you can have what the faction stands for and have a lot of conflict with in it, the alliance doesn’t have to do bad things, it’s easy to have difefrent groups like Defias, Alterac in humans have more diabolical plans, night elves not get on so well with humans, but have their own issues etc that can often spill out to destabilise the faction.

The alliance was never meant to be this big happy united family, even the human kingdoms were in the old alliance were very independent, had their goals, motives etc, it should be even more so with other raecs - their problem is that only humans seem to care about working together, whiles the other races are too self consumed with thier own objectives.

Night elves - are still adjusting to post long vigil, have groups like Highborne who are trying to rebuild their city and pre-sundering culture/idenitty and groups like Illidari, who are in an odd position cos on the one hand they’re no longer betraying villains but actually very brave heroes greatly wronged to which all elves owe so much, but on the other hand still have their fel corruption and instability - they aren’t exactly safe. Druids who are just obsessed with nature only and their work (just like highborne are with civilization and the arcane) - so they tend to really not involve with any local or international affairs, while the priestesses are focused on the soul of their people - managing the new power of the Black moon/Night warrior, post addiction /post legion adaptation and the new heart of the people. - that is a lot of stuff

Draenei: New directive, interaction with Lightforged, Argus is gone, do we introduced Eredar allied race (that will be cool) , especially as part of the Illidari, and their struggle to live with them (it’s like the highborne/night elf 2.0, odd since that chapter is over for the night elves but s imilar begun for the Draenei). Zealotry overtures from the Lightforged and the efforts they must make so they don’t become the Lightbound and the Broken, and their new life, culture, the struggles with it, their views on the Draenei, stability of the broken form, research for reversal, Lost ones.

I mean… we can have a whole Lightforged/Human/Gilnean thign invovled with lordaeron, maybe they build Auchidouin 2.0 in the dalaran crater - struggles against forsaken, vampiric san’layn and the presence of the Lightfoged undead providing a hope for peace -

Dwarves: There is so much that can happen between the 3 clans - they bring a lot of flavour to the dwarves, in addition to we haven’t seen the warrior hardcore side of the dwarves against hte horde, then ofc there is their titan stuff, the earthern, the iron dwrves.

This is not a boring faction - Void elves and high elves can have a new beginning like I highlighted above… and what about new friendships? It was every one to human, but how about Night elves stop liking humans but void elves start liking night elves cos of the black moon & highborne connections? Maybe even the druids find their aid useful in protecting nature and the emerald dream form the void as well as adapting where necessary nature to handle void incursions that can’t be reveresed - could lead to void elf druids.

Then there is Draenei - Night elf friendship which was left dead in the water, how about Draenei, void elves, night elves get on well? Meanwhile Lightforged and humans get on very well.

But some of the factions and groups are so independent and diverse, there are areas of friction, great friction and great friendship between all.

NElf sentinels, Illidari, void elves, silver covenant high elves, all dwarves - can be a tenacious aggressive lot -use that, vs the benevolent scholar types, like some voidies, druids, highborne, priestesses etc.

Alliance doesn’t need vast internal fconflict becuase the races aren’t as different as the horde’s, they however have a lot going for them within their own groups. And are gneerally quite an independent lot that don’t need to band togehter so have a more isolationist feel, like they’re a faction in each race… Beacuse they have that depth. Meanwhile the horde is like a unit that works very well together, but the races are so different this often sparks lots of cross race issues. Balanced by the fact they do need each other so what choice.

The problem is, is that what the alliance is, is not been written or developed well, because they don’t foucs on them, they’ve been pushing the horde for 14 years, to boosti t’s numbers, and kept doing it logn after that goal was achieved, it’s been nearly 10 years now since balance was reached and now it’s favouring the horde heavily.

This is not a complaint on the horde being too well developed, but rather the alliance been thrown under the bus. And now to fix it, things will ahve to favour the alliance heavily for at least 1 expansion (without copting the better assets for the horde at the end of it, like they did with the Nightborne)

Female cows - on 4 legs!

Well i think Nothing people love’s Horde and that’s it.
Alliance is all Humans and bla bla boring ,i mean we got Mag Har orcs and Ally get fat humans

Just give cross faction so people can do raids and problem solved

Fade the druids, Highborne and Moon priestesses into the background, boost the Sentinels/Black Moon Priests, Illidari and Moonguard - they are the teeth group of the night elves. Let’s see them in action and let’s see them kickass.

They’re supposed to be legendary groups like no other. And yet, they just have small appearances.

Mechanisation was taken too far by King MEchagon, but an obsession with it still very much remains. Also bring Leper gnomes to the forefront, they can bring a very different flavour to gnomes. An oppressed group shunned by most races, - most irradiated gnomes were re-constituted thanks to help from the mechagnomes, but they’re all leper gnomes now - and they’re no longer tech interested/talented - alchemy, nature, magic (subversive, underbelly type) is what they like.

LFD facing struggles for Light fascism in the direction the Lightbound went, but they have Turalyon and other priesthoods on Azeroth, as well as a Velen - something AU Draenei did not have.

Furthermore, LFD should be based in EK not Kalim like normal draenei, let them build New Auchindouin where Dalaran crater use to be, and help humans, Lightforged undead, Lordaeron, Alterac - that circle of affairs and all its complexities…

Indeed, it’s like all the alliance races have been muffled and only humanity allowed action.

I hate the diaper look on plate :frowning:

what would make the alliance more popular is if the game was slowed down and the “damage > all” design philosophy of the game was changed as the alliance generally use more defensive and utility racials.

Other than that… the old pretty race = sales could work.

Finally, we need an alliance campaign to ball people up into another full pop alliance server.

Alliance needs some cow love!

Throw me a few Draenei´s and ill make u an awsome new race! Everyone like new races with Horns ^^

I don’t think blizzard can resist the current trend of writing the horde big, they just can’t help it… And it’s teh surest indication of a bias.

Now I have never believed the bias has been an intentional prejudice. I think it was a design decision to balnace out the game poulations that turned into a habit, and now they’re at a loss to write the alliance big.

WEll, Wc2, SWTOR and coutnless examples in history can provide interesting plots and twists. Furthermore, teh alliance races are quite rich lore wise.

Most of them are like independent factions, they should be like that, barely coming together, each in their own world, while the smaller horde races need to often work together to prevail against them or take ground.

The horde are the highly skilled few, ell tight unit punching against the giants that are the night elf empire, human empire, dwarf empire and the advanced spacegoats. Horde relies on great skill, drive and ingenuiity to one up on their more confident/pompous counterparts.

Rework racials

It’s a non issue for me. I like alliance theme and the races etc. I only play horde to do the horde only questlines.

the way to keep it balanced is simple though really.
have a mechanic that is something like a joint ‘spiritual strength’ pool
There is a set amount of ‘spiritual strength’ for alliance and for horde on each server.
if there are more players in a faction, the ‘spiritual strength’ is divided amongst more players. as one faction has more players than the other, the amount of equivalent ‘spiritual strength’ gets smaller.
this will mean that when choosing a new character, people will choose the side with less players so they get a larger portion of ‘spiritual strength’.

This is just a very basic concept. it’s not a ‘finished idea’ or a ‘fully developed game mechanic’. obviously there might be kinks to iron out, but the basic concept is to make the side with more players, a slight disadvantage.
