Whats so bad about raid logging?

Sure, that might be frowned upon as well. Personally I wouldn’t blame players for it anymore than I do for raidlogging. It’s a symptom caused by lack of content in the game. Normally I would blame the developers for that but with Classic it’s really about the original having limited content.

Were there no subscription I wouldn’t even say that raidlogging is really a problem. Logging in once a week to do what you enjoy is fine in that case. With a subscription it is different because everyone has to evaluate if they are getting their moneys worth.

For example I would have left weeks ago if I wasn’t waiting for BGs. Raids alone are not worth the money and especially not Vanilla raids. It’s honestly difficult to stay awake at times in MC.

I usally follow the “1€ per hour of entertainment”-rule. Therefore getting 13 hours of entertainment per month is enough to justify a subscription, for me at least.

Since I usually spend in excess of at least 20+ hours per month on WoW even when just raid/bg/mythic+ logging, I’d say I get more than my moneys worth.

I look at quality more than quantity. 1€ for an hour of quality entertainment is good value. 1€ for an hour of struggling to stay awake in MC is not

You can obviously do what you like. For me I know I wouldn’t experience a game as engaging if I did that tho. Even if I have nothing ‘meaningful’ to do for myself, I’ll still log in to run a dungeon with guildies, or just muck about, or help guildmembers with quests and such. To me that means I’m enjoying myself, when I stop doing that it all becomes pointless rather quickly.

I include that. If you think about it, in WoW you often spend time doing something just so that something else becomes more enjoyable. You farm consumables to make group content less stressful and thus more entertaining. You farm rep to gain flying (modern WoW) so that traversing the world becomes less tedious and as such more entertaining.

So if I spend about 30 hours a month on WoW (Except during progress/addon releases) then I expect at least 13 of those to be quality time. But I am also aware that its necessary to invest less enjoyable time into the game. Not everything is super fun but its often required to have fun later down the line.

I think that depends on who you ask. For me, if I sense this is my mindset a lot of the time in a game, I know I’m not having (a lot of) fun. The less I think of potential rewards while still logging in, the more my gameplay experience will revolve around having fun. For me the social aspect is much more rewarding in that sense, and will be an important motivation in whether I keep playing or not.

But I think this boils down to personality and the way people experience ‘rewards’ differently  Nothing inherently wrong either way.

Because if you play a lot, you will always prefer active players over inactive/indifferent/raidlogging ones.

Nothing wrong with logging in for limited time. I rather just do a few quality hours of enjoying Wow and then spend my free time doing stuff I enjoy like going to the pub, rather than doing god dam daily quests on the molten front

Why am I not surprised, this coming from a dwarf.

On an RP server there’s more content than I am able to consume.

On a regular server I don’t know, farming?

To me phase 2 was released way to early.

Because raidlogging is slacking. You can’t have a flask for every raid for 3 years to come. R14 weapons are BiS for a long time. Go grind, or do you want your guild to carry you?

Raid logging is more of a problem in retail, connected to world quests and reputations. Mostly in WoD, people were raid-logging, since there was no content outside raids.
And when world quests/dailies came out, there was major outcry of raid-loggers who suddenly “had” to do world content to stay “competitive”.
People who dont raid seriously for any reason dont like raid-loggers because they demand Blizzard not to produce world content and are afraid WoD will happen again.
Classic is another story, since we know there will be no world content anymore, so you cant blame raid-loggers since there is nothing to do, at least pve wise.

Noone has to have any BiS in Classic, it is too easy anyway, so noone needs to carry anyone, bosses die anyway 1 shotted.

You don’t have to be better than others. But you can.

If you want.

This sums it up pretty well.

Nothing is bad about it. It´s actually the most effective spending time in the game and I am getting to that point too. I have to say current PVP mess helped it too but it´s not the only reason. It´s simply because raiding is the most effective gameplay. In 3 hours I can get some epic item. Other people spend many many many hours to earn gold or mats so craft or buy an item that will boost their dmg by few %. We can easily clear MC without it so it´s not worth it in my opinion. The same with professions - people are spending dozens of hours to max their professions just to perhaps get an item or two from it. Again better spending 3 hours raiding and most likely you get an item almost just as good.

I understand min/maxers actually find it fun. But most people are perfectly fine only logging for raids. As mentioned already, this game is actually pretty cheap so I am absolutelly ok with the price I pay per hour even if I don´t play as much as I could.

I don’t like raid logging because it doesn’t really allow me to play the game at my own pace and dictates me when I have to play the game in order to not fall behind. In the end it’s similar to retail, which gets a lot of (in my opinion well deserved) criticism for it. I’d like a game which is fun to play rather than a game which wants me to play it for the sake of playing it.

Raiding is generally a guild effort. In many guilds there is a lot of stuff done for the guild. Helping people get ready for raids by doing BiS dungeon runs with them. Farming mats for enchants, pots and stuff, specially with BWL coming and those mats might mean a lot during progression.

If you have members that raid log, this means during the rest of the week they show no interest in the rest of the guild. They do not help out, and seem to only be there for their personal benefit (grabbing some raid loot once a week).

Is this bad? No, technically its your choice, and there are probably guilds with everything on farm and no need of any help with other people progressing still. But in case of guilds that are still activity involved with each others progression and working together, and see a guild as a social environment, it might be frowned upon.

I know I always am a bit sad when I see a raid logger who is only online during that raid and never been involved otherwise, get some BIS raid loot over a player that has been actively participating in guild activities and farming for the entire time.

People whining about what other people choose too do. Ah, thats right. it’s 2019, this poop is normal now -_-
