Whats the appeal to large scale PvP?

Now, I do understand small scale PvP enjoyment, esp. in bgs, where few people fight around a flag or some objective, using different tricks to disable one or two oponents, to finish off others etc.
But what is the fun in large scale one in wpvp? People are attacking different targets, there is no clear goal who to sheep/disable, who to dispel priority, it is just a laggy disorganised mess with zillion spells going off.
So, what is the appeal of it to you?

Well lets exclude lag.

It’s not disorganised. The more disorganised group will lose.
It’s not necessarily visually appealing but there’s a lot going on, by killing one person it could be the reason 10 die.

It’s a war raid against real people, and the groups that do have a “clear goal” will be the ones that win. Largescale PvP is organised chaos, and that’s pretty appealing to me.

Maybe your side is disorganised. We have dedicated target callers on discord and group leaders that point out enemy targets.

Maybe it is hard to describe the appeal of it until you try it. I have always found city raids to be some of my favourite events in the game. There is a real thrill to having so many people working as a team, even if it’s not well organised.

In large scale pvp you have the potential to go from 100% hp to 0% hp in one second flat so you have to be constantly aware of what you and others are doing. You can’t leave range of healers etc.
Good fun.

I would suggest joining in, next time you see an advert in chat for faction raid, and then you will see whether it is exciting for you.

The general fun is its epic feel, the skill fun is large group to be able to act as a single entity.
As others said: organization from the leaders and following orders from the players can easily compensate for smaller numbers.

What is the appeal of small scale PvP?
What is the appeal of BGs?
What is the appeal of “insert whatever”?

If you don’t find something appealing…don’t ask why, because no answer will make you like something. Or dislike something.

It is a matter of personal taste : you either like it or not.

Large scale as in a PvP raid wiping a PvE raid waiting to enter an instance, that’s not really wPvP for me though it still can be somewhat fun if it does not end up in corpse camping.

But big scale battles, even if full chaos like old Hillsbrad Foothills battles, it’s just awesome. Getting a group working together in that chaos is very fun and effective.

Or city raids, even though partially PvE (going for their bosses), the whole organization, working together, partly focussing on the boss, partly on the opposite faction players. It’s just fun. Guess I like the chaos.

I don’t even particularly like 1on1 PvP or Arena’s. BG’s and raids though where the goal is not just simply killing the other, awesome!

Its not I didnt try it, I did both classic and retail, it just feels chaotic, with no clear goal what to do, without some kind of assignment.
In pve raids, everyone knows their role, in wpvp I miss that. Granted, I only did it with pugs, maybe 40 man guild raid does it differently with comms.

BG = theme park experience, the game sets the rules and objectives.

Large-scale world PvP = sandbox experience. Requires some imagination and effort to work.

It’s sad that you didn’t experience the organised variant.

I remember completely facerolling the old 1.5 AV with a group of 20 guildies, we ended up succesfully defending a GY from 35 people and won the entire thing in 20 minutes. That can be the power of voice coms and some decent gear.

The same thing goes for world PvP. Get more organised than the other guy (Rogue sapper teams anyone?) and you’ll decimate em if they’re pugging without coms.

What’s the appeal of computer games? You literally stare at the screen and press buttons.

I guess you feel attacked with simple question, well, dont be.
I just wanted to hear what motivates people in that kind of activity which I dont understand fully, while I do understand all others wow activities. Maybe I would like it more when hear other people explanations.

Is easy to have fun in the “random” enounters in larger scales, things like two raid groups meeting outside Ony/MC or a city raid or even the rising scale of battles in Hillsbrad.

Could also seem more disorganised I guess though.

The idea of world bosses etc I think could be very engaging; i’ve only seen it on videos but it does look very competitive

Comparing wPvP from WoW to EVE is a bit of a stretch.

As melee, big battles usually mean a lot of dying, because without coordination and careful placement charging is rolling a dice.

As a rogue I’m somewhat lucky because I can go after healers in the back, choosing very carefully my targets and legging it at the smallest hint of trouble, or people who just “ressed” and are about to join the battle. Quite often there isn’t a whole lot to do though, because you just wander around looking for the right moment to step in.

Healers and ranged have a lot more fun, because they do the heavy lifting and they can easily get in, shoot or heal a little bit, and pull back.

Honestly, i can’t wait for bg’s, specially ab, i can play it all day, too bad that i dont have the free time that i usually had in vanilla.

Wpvp is meh and probably will take much of the fun of the first months of bg’s, because the hardcore guilds that will rank up like crazy in this next months, will form a lot of very well geared premades, when bgs come out that will rollover any premade or pug that didnt go harcore in phase 2.

The phase planning was not kind with BG fans that don’t have more than 4/6h to play everyday.

Been in a few WPvP guilds, and it is organized.
Dedicated target callers, rogues going to the enemy backline to disrupt healers and casters, hunters coordinating pet attacks on single targets, mages coordinating sheeps, etc… It’s a lot more fast paced than raiding, but also less rigid.
With an organized group of around 25 players, we were able to walk (not run) from the trade district in SW, up and into the mage tower, hold it for a while, then continue through the entire city without anyone being able to stop us. We also held the entrance hall in the ally capital in Pandaria for over 2 hours before we got bored and just walked away.
Simply because we were organized, and the masses trying to kill us weren’t.

But complete chaos can be fun too!
