I’m currently leveling a night elf priest in classic. I picked this class/race combo because:
I have always played priest
I enjoy the lore/story of the night elves (Replayed Warcraft 3 recently)
I tend to die a lot, so the wisp racial helps
Shadowmeld Mind Control at elevators/Blackrock chain
Everything was going fine until I got to Stormwind. While doing my professions etc in Stormwind I got 3 pings, in one day, from 3 different players randomly telling me how bad my race/combo choice is and how no one will want me in raids etc.
Honestly, why do these people feel so obliged to do this kind of stuff? Are raids that strict on class/race combos? I plan on doing mostly PvP with a weekly pug to help with gear.
Heyo:)
No its fine, alot of human/NE priests go to raid up to naxx.
Ofc its nicer to pick dwarf for the Fear Ward.
But its not the end of the world and 3 whispers sounds ridiculous tbh:D tell them to mind their own business theyre not paying your sub
This is where the /ignore works best. Play how you want to and ignore the elitist min/maxers.
I ignore around 2-5 people a day on my server, just sift through the trash as they take themselves out.
I paid my sub for this game so i can play what i want. its simple as that, if they were to /w me like that I tell them to P**s off and kiss thatchers feet.
The impression I’ve got is that the majority of wow classic players are absolute hardcore minmaxers who will even prioritize their racial bonuses even if it gives them a slight 2-3% damage increase or whatever instead of playing a race+class combo they always wanted.
In the end of the day you can play whatever you want if you’re having fun with it, do not let other people influence your perception of fun.
2-3% is a lot though. in a 40 man raid that would be like getting a 41st person just from picking the right race. the skill cap is very low in wow and the people that choose the right race are likely to be better than those that do not
There are few min/max things with race.
Human and Orc make the best physical DPS for PVE due to increased weapon skill.
Dwarf is miles ahead of any other race for priests on alliance due to fear ward. This is especially big with fury-prot tanks who struggle more with stance dancing than traditional deep prot tanks due to lacking tactical mastery.
It depends, people who prefer subjective preference to objective performance can pick what they like, but no performance oriented player is going to pick a sub-optimal race.
This is not minmaxers doing, just stupid people being stupid and loud.
There is a big difference between minmaxers and people being stupid and acting like minmaxers,
and that is minmaxers know WHY dwarfs are better, and stupid people just know that they are better but dont understand why.
The difference between a dwarf and a NE is pretty much nonexistant.
Dwarf is definatly the better race, no question about that, but the only time where this difference will matter is in very high end guilds that want as many fear wards on their rogues as possible to kill fear bosses a few seconds faster.
You dont need more than 2 dwarf priests to keep fearward on tanks at all times, more dwarfs are just a boost to raid dps by letting a few rogues avoid the fear mechanic on the very few bosses in the game that have that mechanic.
No guild that are in need of a priest will refuse a NE one because of its racial unless there is a dwarf priest also interessted in joining them, but if they do, you are lucky and dodged a bullet by not joining a guild with bad leadership.
Avoid speedclearing guilds, and noone will refuse you because of your racial.
If the game is so easy why should people care about a minuscule increase in dps which can be achieved by playing a race a person is not particularly keen on? The minmax mentality is toxic at its core, I’ve witnessed instances of racial bias when it came to the nelf / dwarf priest for example. The guild master simply didn’t agree to invite my nelf friend because the other candidate was a dwarf.
Sounds like you’ve got toxic people on your server. I play on two separate servers, one for my alliance toons one for my horde toons and have never had a single person whisper me to comment on my race, classs or combination.
The same thing happens in every aspect of life, efficiency is important. Be it in professional sports, engines or anything large scale. Minmax is basically ingrained into our DNA. Efficiency is why humans are still alive.
In a lot of instances it’s better for a 60 to just re-level with proper race, the long term benefits are much greater than small short term gear benefits of a already level 60 player. The person that decides to level the right race has a better mentality aswell.
The race factor is actually a lot smaller than the mentality factor of the people that don’t care about the race.
Hate to brake it down for ya, but the game is not real life, people come online to forget the daily struggles of their lives and have some fun.
Minmax is basically ingrained into our DNA
If that was true you would see only dwarf priests, tauren warrior tanks / orc warrior dps, etc.

None of this mattered 16 years ago. Also, what you’re describing is low-key autistic behavior (no offense)
The race factor is actually a lot smaller than the mentality factor of the people that don’t care about the race.
These sort of people should not be playing with the group of people that play the game in a completely opposite way. The people that do choose right races etc do so because they want to be competitive, they don’t want to spend over an hour clearing non naxx raids.
Dwarf priest is pretty insignificant compared to race choice as melee. Tauren warrior is certainly not the best choice for a tank, troll is better. Troll might actually be a better DPS race in naxx than orc aswell, due to the complications of mortal striking yourself as orc.
It is as autistic as it is to take any hobby or aspect of life seriously. If you wanna be in a serious group of people you have to be serious yourself, this does not only apply to wow.
These sort of people should not be playing with the group of people that play the game in a completely opposite way.
So you’re basically suggesting segregation of casuals and minmaxers (lmao) ? Would it bother you if little Timmy in your guild did 3% less dmg because he rolled an undead warrior instead of an orc ?
The people that do choose right races
There is no right or wrong race for a casual player, only minmaxers have this weird concept of the “right race”. This phrase alone pretty much sums up your entire viewpoint.
