Whats wrong with MoP?

precisely because of what I said.

So far the major problem with PVP, appears to be the same problem it has always been with PVP…ie. a few class/specs are meta and once they have got enough good gear on, every one else gets one-shotted…which really annoys PVP players whose class/spec used to be meta, but isn’t in the current Xpac…and some stuff about skillz, which no-one really believes, after they look at the gear ilvl and the meta…not to mention, the amount of complaints when accessing high-end gear is too easy.

dunno if that’s a problem or not, could be, but basically yes, people are dying 99% of the time nowadays to “one shots” because of what I said:

Now that’s not to say some classes aren’t broken, obviously that is a thing… but yes most of the time when these one shots are happening you’ll see it’s because they either don’t have any cooldowns left for burst windows, mostly due to overlapping CDs unnecessarily earlier (happens a lot), or they didn’t press them at all.

What made me like wotlk for example (and I suppose MoP had this too even though it was super cooldown based) was that damn near everyone could one shot each other given the opportunity, so it wasn’t just a select few. Pretty much with the exception of DoT specs like Sp/Affli, everyone else was “globaling” people in proc windows if they didn’t respond.

That sounds quite a lot like something called ‘skillz’, no?

yes, the ability to use your cooldowns properly does fall under the “skill” category, I have not and am not going to argue against that. In my OP I merely pointed out that that is why I did not like MoP (and what it shaped the game to be), because I preferred when the game was not dictated by cooldown trading and doing zero damage in between them.

…which is why I used the term ‘brute forcing it’.
It just seems that the underlying issue, actually reflects when a player was PVPing in an Xpac that worked for that player’s favourite class/spec… rather than whether or not the current system is inherently ‘bad’.
I liked PVPing in Wrath, yet I am also a complete scrub at PVP.

As far as I can tell, the split in opinion re PvP is because MoP at launch was rough AF, and by it’s last patch was pretty good. Most classes had a lot of tools, the rock-paper-scissors game was at its lowest.

Vs what we have now, which is scissors-shears-paper-sponge.

And I agree with the environment, music and theme of Pandaria is the best. All my alts linger there and some don’t emerge for months because I just like noodling around on the farm and doing those old reps.

I loved everything about MoP - especially the zones. Even going to Pandaria zones now they just look so nice.

P.S - pandas are fab!

I think the biggest backash for MoP was due to its themes. TBC and WotLK were tying up remaining histories from Warcraft RTS; Cata had a sceptical reception because of that, but it tried to keep the tone set by previously built world. When MoP rolled out, first thing people seen in trailers was some whimsical pandas just trying to maintain zen. initial backlash was that it’s proof that WoW doesn’t have any ideas left and tries to rebrand itself to eastern market, the game is definitely dead etc.

Also it got easily associated with Kung Fu Panda from dreamworks, and EdGy fantasy gamers didn’t like being associated with kids’ movie.

You were speaking of “the state of PVP” and saying it was “great”. Stupidity.

Their loss, I think those are great films. Sure-fire way to reset my mood on a bad day

There were exactly two major complaints about Mists proper.

  1. “Kung-Fu Pandaz lol”. A LOT of people rejected the theme entirely. And even some of those who didn’t, never felt good about the music and architecture.

  2. Blizzard turned the dailies up to 11 in the first patch. Dailies were “mandatory” (that word kept being used on the forums) for rep to buy gear from vendors. Only in 5.0. In 5.1, they relaxed rep gains, and Ghostcrawler said they maybe shudn’ta dun dat - AFTER they had safely slowed everyone down … However, people remember “dailies” as if they were “mandatory” for the whole expansion.

That’s it. While there were of course several minor gripes along the way, those were the only two big ones.

We might also remember the long, long final patch, while Warlords was delayed, but that’s hardly specific to Mists.

CRZ was also introduced in the Mists prepatch. That killed all realm communities stone-dead In a matter of weeks, and was the second-most resented thing on the Blizzard forums ever. There were thousands of threads about it, many moving so fast that a whole page might be added while you were typing a post. As I recall, there were 30 or so fully-capped threads of 10,000 posts on each side of the Atlantic, apart from all the smaller ones. The death of communities probably also contributed to the reputation of Mists, indirectly.

Asian theme. Really not my thang.

On top of that I really felt it was too much focus on the asian theme and barerly any on World of Warcraft.

Kinda was like an entirely different game that way.

I for one absolutely love the visuals and music of Pandaria. It could have been filled with demi-humans instead of fuzzy pandas, and I’d still rate it as high on the list of places I want to hang out and retire to. (Although the pandas do help. They’re so huggable.)

That Pandaria is eastern inspired rather than western like Stormwind? Who cares? 50 years ago, my entire family lived in a single county in England and had probably been there for centuries. Genetics and upbringing doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to find asian architecture appealing, or think noodles are nicer than burgers.

And if we want to talk about jarring themes… dropping a spaceship on a world of medieval swords-and-magic? Twice? Being ok with holograms and green fel goo and not ok with bamboo and jade seems really strange to me

That is interesting and I didn’t realise that (missed a lot of MoP, sadly).

But from what I remember, it was getting real hard to form casual dungeon groups in Cata… there needed to be realm merges if not x-realm grouping.

Most people that say that, have never actually played the expansion or simply cause Panda’s and that is it. Sure the daillies were a bit of a drag to do but the dungeons, raids, art, music, story and zones were some of the best they have ever created. Pvp? Probably the best time to pvp as classes actually had some spells to use. Its the first expansion that wasn’t all dark and edgy on the surface but more hidden. The sha and what it all could do wasn’t the obvious enemy and some players just prefer enemies to be obvious cause…easily confused i guess?

It was the expac I quit during (joined in TBC, on my original acct, started fresh in Legion).

I loved the visuals; the zones, dungeons and raids all looked amazing . The questing was fun despite being ‘on rails’ and the story was great!

Man, I loved my MoP Shadow Priest.

But the insane amount of dailes and the low-fun dungeons killed me off. The day-to-day burned me out.
