Wasn’t alone in thinking it might be interesting to see reasoning from the other side.
What are your reasons for maining alliance? Friends? Faction ethos? Racials? Environments? Races? Simple chance? Let’s hear what the blues have to say.
Myself
As said in the other topic, I tend to play both factions in near-equal measure though On balance i’ve “mained” alliance more expos than horde I guess.
For me it comes back to races more than anything else. I really like Gnomes (both fleshy and metallic), Dwarves and Draenei. Therefore they tend to pull me back towards them more often than I feel the pull of the red.
What about everyone else? Can’t promise i’ll engage in the same kind of analysis Shadazzle did, but hey, I might take a look see if any trends stand out which differ from the other thread.

I started out playing every race, with both factions. I didn’t have any attachments. But once I started making friends in the game it changed, and the first WoW friends I had were on the Alliance side, so it was a natural choice at that point.
Once I had leveled several max level characters, I already felt like I had chosen my side, and I stuck with it. I never saw much of a reason to make a Horde character after that.

Cause my bf at the time and all his friends played alliance. Bfa is the first time i’ve ever played a horde character at all.

I simply could not resist draenei and night elves. I’m not really in favour of Alliance’s politics, but these two races are my top choices by far.
I play both. When I first started I’m alliance then I switched to Horde about a month ago because of the Allied races and finally came back to Alliance which is a choice I made just Two days ago actually. I had a lot of thinking and it made me realize maining a Horde is not really my thing.
The crazy low level adventures I had going up the secret camp near stormwind with a couple of new friends or getting past Duskwood and being killed a few times all the way to BootyBay. Like the small things that make the game fun was mostly on my Alliance Druid.
I still play Horde and love it, but Alliance seems to get my attention more. Regardless of how horrible we do in PVP I will forever love the Alliance… and Horde.

The first time I created an alliance character was back in wotlk. When I first started playing wow PvP was everything for me and PvE was just a necessary evil (it’s pretty much the other way around now). And back then the human racial was a pretty big thing for pvp (the regular medallion would take up a trinket slot). So naturally I created a human rogue and tried to level him.
Long story short, I ended up abandoning him at around level 30, because I couldn’t be bothered to level another character.
After that I played Horde only for a long long time until I started playing with my gf (Horde aswell). She wanted to play alliance and so I finally leveled an alliance character to max level with her in legion.

Because when I first played WoW in vanilla (and knew nothing about it at all) I read all the different class descriptions and thought paladin sounded the class to be and paladins were only alliance.
I do have a couple of horde characters that I made on a different realm so my friend and I could play on the many days that our realm was down … but I always came back to alliance. I loved Stormwind, especially the music and it became my home.

Night elves and dwarfs. Also alliance felt easier faction for a noob RPer and I’ve stick on the blue team from the beginning, until half way into BfA. Now I think I have equal amount of characters on both factions but I haven’t played much on Alliance side lately

I was RAF’d into the Alliance at the start of my time here, that friend bailed on me as soon as he got the RAF rewards so after milling around for a while I left to go to the Horde out of spite,
turned out people were nicer and I enjoyed myself much more than I had with him or the Alliance side.
now i’m back with the Alliance because I like the Lightforged(super charged Paladin) and Kul’tiran(British Druidism) races,
my heart is always with the Horde and Sin’dorei though
Two reasons, mainly.
First, i just love the classics of fantasy. Humans with big castles, wizards and knights. Dwarves in mighty mountain fortresses and elves beeing elves. They are in most settings, but always with a little twist, always a little different. And i love that.
Secondly, im a sucker for exploring the darker aspects of the “good guys”. Thats why, for example, i love playing dark side republic in SWTOR. Back in vanilla, the alliance was much more grey and dirty, then it is today. The neglected and abandoned provinces of stormwind. 14 year old stockade guards, that got shanked by defias. Magic hating Night Elves and Magni, that alienated his own daughter, because he wanted a son (that part war retconned, later on). Stuff like that. Thats why people like Daelin Proudmoore, Genn, post Theramore Jaina or the Silver Covenant resonate with me.

I’m main Alliance but I post on a Horde alt
- the races (void elf, draenei, night elf)
- the cities
- found a nice guild to raid with on Alliance
that’s about it 
Friend who had played WoW for years got me into the game, choice was between the draenei and blood elf, which to go with first. Suggested I’d play on Saurfang, that it was a nice server so went with that draenei hunter first which is my alliance main these days.
we didnt play together for long after reaching max level though since Shadazzle quit wow shortly after dinging. the main reason i wanted to play alliance was for the achievement double agent and to mix things up for a change.
i levelled alliance characters many times before to maybe level 20-45 and then abandonned them again until i committed to alliance for the entire span of legion up until bfa because i found a nice guild in legion with which i even raided until it disbanded at the end of legion.
back in december i switched back to horde though as im a horde at heart. alliance is nice but i just missed my beefy bois i guess.

I actually changed to Alliance for one expansion but returned to the Horde after a break towards the end for the last raid Hellfire Citadel.
I really disliked the location and looks of the Horde Garrison. The Alliance one was 100 times better looking and in a much nicer location. The Horde garrison would have been more bearable located in Gorgrond. I still feel cold every time I go back.
Sadly it wasn’t enough to make me want to stay forever but it was nice to try maining the other side for a change.
