Never really understood the whole twinking thing. Why do you do it? What’s the point?
Seen loads of people excited for it, and getting BiS for certain twink brackets. Which is cool, this aint a post to insult anyone doing it. I just really don’t get the appeal? In my mind it likes playing CoD/battlefield and only letting the other team use knives.
There is something cool about literally 1shotting a clother using ambush, or hitting a clother as a warrior on 5 sunders and crusader proc crit, cant deny it
Having done battlegrounds as a holy paladin while leveling up the week they messed up holy damage coefficients (1- or 2-shotting people with instants) I gotta say there’s some fun in playing God mode on. However for me it got boring very quickly.
A common argument for twinking is the challenge of creating the twink, min/maxing, and fighting other twinks, but what separating twinks and non-twinks showed when they divided both groups in battlegrounds was twinks want to dominate over non-twinks, because they enjoy that gameplay for longer than I did.
I don’t go full twink, because I do ultimately want to hit the level cap eventually, but my alts tend to end up as half-baked demi-twinks after I turbocharge their professions (my level 31 warrior is on the way to a Gnomish Death Ray, which is only possible because of the +15 engineering racial letting me hit exactly the 240 skill required).
For me putting in that level of work, it’s just because I like to optimise. I could run around using heavy dynamite, but why would I when a little time on my main could get me something much better?
Obviously this is a different situation than someone who is deliberately staying at a certain level, but even that much is enough to give me a clear PvP advantage, and I PvP a lot. It’s nothing to do with feeling it’s the only way I can compete (I also punish myself by playing prot warrior and only running a given dungeon once or twice, so maybe it balances out?)
We do it because the combat is different, there is lots of fun to be had because there is a max amount of gear u can get with some gold and dedication, whereas at 60 it’s much harder to get the best gear and the gap between lets say a bleu geared pvper and one with full t2, is much harder to close.
So put those hands back in your pants and stop crying over being played by a twink once or twice, because u’ll get played alot more by lvl 60 players with lots and lots better gear then u, without having the skill because they do pve content.
Really? Did you ever play the level 10-19 bracket? Utter slaughter. I don’t have anything against twinks - I’ve always enjoyed the challenge - but claiming that they’re somehow less of a threat than people in raid gear is… uh… wow.
well I guess you are right about 19 bracket, with all the high level enchants and so forth the gap is pretty huge between a nobody and a full fledged twink.
But my full point was the time investement of a twink versus having to get full t2 while just haven gotten 60, is a huge difference.
I was new to the game. Was levelling my first character to max, which was 80.
I did the occasional BG while levelling, and saw heavily geared people destroy.
I had no end game experience yet and in another MMO I played there was a alternative way of playing where you stay at level 45/55 for specific content.
Putting those together I thought it would be a way of getting some end-game style content at low level. I made a rogue, bought gold from a gold seller because I was an idiot and proceeded to get BIS for lvl 39. Had alot of fun until exp was added to BGs
I actually improved alot at PvP from deciding to do that, today I consider myself much better at pvp than pve.
But for me, it was a completely noobish state of mind that led to it.
Twinks in Classic will be our version of Battle Pets in Retail
It’s just a fun side hobby / mini-game for when you want to take a break from your main and not have to worry about getting to 60.
Twinking in vanilla was a lot different, since we didn’t have the haste/crit/etc -rating system. After that getting what was once a 1% crit chance now provided insane amounts of crit for lowerlevels.
In this respect classic twinking will be less of an imbalance, still if you are a level 12 still in grey/no gear and going up against a level 19 in full blues… well sucks to be you.
Most twinks are failed PVPers. They can’t handle max level PVP so they have too eek out every advantage they can in the lower brackets to feel like they are good.
I had a 19 warrior twink in vanilla. Bashing people who had no chance against you was pretty fun, but also the process of gathering all the materials while being careful not to get any XP, and see really how far you can take your character was a lot of fun.
Personally I like the idea of PVP in a low bracket simply because it’s a different meta, with classes having few abilities and it’s easier to figure out the extent of a classes’ capabilities and how you measure up to them.
The only reason I will twink is to give myself a fair chance against other twinks. No point in even trying that low level bracket game if you’re just getting one-shotted by twinks.
Personally I hate the concept of twinking and see it as exploiting a feature of the game (no PvP xp gains) to give an unfair balance over those playing the game as it was intended (leveling up).
My vanilla PvP toon I leveled almost completely on WSG turn in XP (you do get XP from the tokens) so I had a massive amount of BG’s throughout all level brackets. It was awesome, best PvP experience ever. At level 60 it was immediatley a lot less fun because the massive gear gap with PvE raid geared players.
After that one, I wanted to do the same with another toon. By then twinks were there. Playing during leveling in each bracket was completely pointless against all the max level (19, 29, 39 etc) with the blue BiS and high level enchants. You were still being completely demolished without really anything you could do about it.
Gave up on the lower level BG’s and just went back to my 60 farming gear and reputation.
