You spend ton of gold and many 100s of hours gathering people and flying to raids. But why do you even need better gear?
What can you do with full epic that you cant in green? There is no content outside of raiding anyway like arenas, mythic + dungeons etc, sooo why would u bother to get gear? Raids are designed for 7 year olds to clear, and there is not anything in the game the require you to have good gear to complete. Soo why are we gearing in wow classic? flex in ogri?
Has your guild cleared all current content yet wearing only greens?
I use good gear to kill low geared players.
First, how does a lvl 35 Mage knows about raids?
Second there’s no children playing Original World Of Warcraft. The children are playing Refail, a game that’s been designed from the ground up to cater to 10 year olds and below with KF pandas, pokemon, foxes, little ponies, etc.

The gears free , i want better gear so i can get even more better gear and see all those lovely raids i saw 14 years ago and enjoy all the game has to offer whilst being able to contribute to the raid…
It’s pretty borring to have good gear but it’s really fun to chase it.
I get better gear so i can feed my dopamine adiction every time i get a piece.
More spellpower allows me to one shot higher level players with fireblast than I could if I was running around in green gear.
I asked myself this question over the last week. I’m full phase 4 best in slot on my main, but at the moment struggling to get any gear upgrades at all -> gotta love the start of a new raid and a loot-council that favors the officers first.
But that got me thinking also, why would I even need new gear? Shouldn’t it be about raiding with friends? It would be nice to skip all the necessary gold farming to be able to raid, and of course you compare yourself to less performing people getting gear, but in the end it all doesn’t matter as it’s too easy anyway. Concerning yourself with what is fair is kind of exhausting.
The only point I can think of is that it’s fun to become more powerful -> everyone wants their character to progress in power and so do I.
but where will you use that power? There is no content to do so, or did I miss anything?
I mean you could use the power technically to try to prevent clutch situations, near wipes or even start speedrunning the content even more with your guild? I mean you can always use more power as a raid team right? Power is fun for a lot of people.
Why even level to 60 at all? Why even play WoW at all? Why even play any game? You’re just wasting your time on something that’s virtual and not real.
Oh wait, because many of us get fun and enjoyment from it! Many of us use games to escape from the real world. Many use it as a way to have fun and socialise online. Many people like to collect things and get full sets. And there’s nothing wrong with doing any of those things.
But more to the point, the better the gear, the more efficient you’ll be in other aspects of the game that you enjoy, such as professions, PvP, gold farming, helping friends and guilds, collecting other items, exploring, and of course any completionist can show off that rad tier set in their major city.
I guess but in retail you have things like:
(Mythic +) a system that makes the dungeons harder and harder and it has no cap, so the better gear you have the higher u can climb in these dungeon levels and the compete against other.
(Many tiers of same raid)
You have lfr/normal/heroic/mythic raid version.
So you can get gear from normal, and then when you become more powerful your goal can be to clear heroic. When you clear heroic and get that gear, your goal can be to clear mythic.
(Arena) Never ending grind of higher raiting if you like the PVP option instead.
These 3 activies require better and better gear and is never endning, meaning you can always go hight in them, and when you have activites like this it makes perfect sense to want better gear so you can use them in these activives and compete against others. I dont see why you would need gear in classic this way.
Ofc you can also clear the raids faster but that is only a bonus, but seems to be the only argument to get gear in classic.
Also world buffs in classic makes gearing even less needed. You can wait for that sweet drop that gives 1% crit on a item, meanwhile if you miss the worldbuffs for a raid or get ganked/die, then you loose 20% crit… I just dont see the balance and reward system in classic gear.
The power of the e-peen is unimaginable. Don’t underestimate it.
Why do anything?
Yeah if it’s about clearing content you may as well clear AQ40 and Naxx once and call it a day.
Unless you try to find fun in improving in some way there is nothing but the power of fun and friendship to deal with the repetitive nature of this game.
My guild currently has Huhuran at 5%. A bit more healing power, a bit more DPS, and we might just pull it off.
This is ironically the one fight where we use plenty of green items (for the nature resistance).
Well its fun to chase better gear for future content like naxx but after that there is no point as TBC will come anyways and gear will be replaced after a few lvls.
Im just honestly going to make casual raiding in AQ40 to get some weapons/rings and amu and keep my T2 set on mage for naxx. Really no point in chasing bis loot just to have a few extra dps numbers on the chart.
You get the good gear to PvP with it.
That’s how it should be, anyway.
Instead people are PvPing to rank 13 or 14 for the gear to use in PvE and triviliaze the raids further. And then they’ll replace it in AQ or Naxx.
Classic is an unnatural creation.
Good gear helps making encounters more smooth, reduces the chance of wipes, and the length of the raid - which is a significant concern when there’s so many raids you might run each week and few raiding days to do so.
Sure, you can decide to depend on wbuffs, but one unlucky pull/wipe and they’re gone for the rest of the night. Then, what’re you gonna do with your greens and no wbuff whatsoever in AQ40?
