Why do you need good gear in classic?

I like having good gear because it’s fun to put 3 dots on someone riding by in a BG and watch them die from them.

The only reason to get gear is to pvp or to speedrun, really

The never-ending gear grind is one of the main things that really drove me away from retail.

‘Oh I got a new copy of the same item but this one has 5 more ilvl, yay?’

In classic, when you got the best item, thats it, you got it, no need to grind to get a slightly better version of it, to me, that grinding is just a braindead activity that sucked the fun out of getting any new items.

And lets not forget epics being thrown around like candy from all the WQs.

Do I miss some things from retail?

Sure, like the reagent tab in the bank would be nice, I also would not mind if something similar to the first LFG system was implemented, no auto forming groups, no teleport, just somewhere you can list yourself for a dungeon, the spam in LookingForGroup channel can be a bit annoying at times, especially with all the damn boosters.

That being said, I am fairly happy with classic, although the decision to have this version of AV was a horribly lazy decision from Activision, I was really looking forward to the AV of old, instead we got discount prepatch AV :slightly_frowning_face:

You actually don’t need good gear

kind of true for many classes, but not all. Warriors REALLY need gear. a fury warrior in greens/lowlvl blues can be outdpsed by a ret paladin in simular gear for example.

dude why does people wear fashion clothes? get off really

The current raids can offer gear that would become useful for the next upcoming raid tier. You can try to clear Naxx with only green gear ofc but i guess many guilds step into Naxx fully pimped out with BWL/AQ gear.
But then what will be there after Naxx? Why would people farm the full T3 set if there isn’t any new challenge afterwards? If Classic would just stay as it is with no new content coming - how long would you farm Naxx? Until you get every item from Naxx that would make your char better? Once you finally have all the best gear is it then time to finally start playing the game or are you finished with the game at this point?^^

Personally i think players who quit the game after they got all the items that their character can use have failed the concept of an MMORPG and basically waste all those items. In that sense players don’t really need those items, they are just collecting them.

If you think about it once you’re geared you can do x things (grinding, helping friends, doing dungeons, pvp, speedruns etc) . Once you’re geared in retail you can do x+y things (basically more stuff).

But there is nothing that says that x things are not enough and x+y things are more than enough. Once you get what you want you need another goal.

Why don’t you just play retail then?

It’s obvious you started playing classic at launch but burned out by the time you reached lvl 35. Retail is apparently so boring you have to spend your time posting low-effort bait threads on the Classic forums.

Well for me to pvp, dominate even more in bgs/ world pvp.
To me that is the classic endgame, endlessly spamming bgs.

The pve aspect is just a means to an end for me.
And not something I find any enjoyment in.
Speed running or parsing this piss easy content Is an activity I just dont regard very highly. Even the server/ world first guilds I equate to a casual lfr activity.

Ofc its not that the pvp aspect of classic is the pinnacle of skill.
But its fun to me. Dominating others is something I find enjoyment in.
And classic pvp is not at all balanced, fast pased and bursty af.
To me that doesnt mean that its bad, rather highly enjoyable.

I need gear to show it off in ironforge.

Not much else i can do with it in Classic.

Gear is meaningless, real wow its about skill. But not Classic, Classic is just a clown fiesta.

OP plays a mmorpg (maybe? he is lvl 35 kek), but doesn’t understand the concept of character progression.

This thread is going places from the get go.

You need best gear because when TBC comes out, you can vendor it and replace it with much better gear in like 40 mins.

and in classic epics are getting thrown at you from the ZG raid where people enter a pug in green gear when they just dinged 60, press 1 button for 1 minute on each boss and then loot powerful epics. What is the difference do you mean?

I play both retial and classic, and is one of the best mages who ever touched the game in mythic raiding / pvp and was level 60 in classic 10 days after release. Sorry for bringing up a question that threatens your game and escape from life buddy.

The difference? One is a raid and the other is a solo activity.
You have to split the few drops between many players as opposed to getting everything.

Nothing gets thrown at you in Classic unless you put in some time, unlike retail where you can just queue up for LFR or do WQs and you’ll get those epics.

Pretty big difference imo.

I don’t know where you got that from but ok.

Just post from your lvl 60 mage then if you want to avoid these misunderstandings.

And the gear from WQ and LFR is total garbo, why you feel so damaged by it son?

Tbh, if you are decked out in Naxx gear, you wont replace that till you get to TBC endgame, its that over tuned.

You will replace most of it (all for some classes) in heroic 5 man dungeons (some even in normal), so within week or 2 after TBC launch.
Naxx gear is/was there mostly to dominate casuals in PVP or to compensate lack in PvP skills
Tho PvP skills with spell batching means absolutely nothing

Yeah, but is it really worth the time and the energy getting all those Naxx pieces, compared to the time and energy spent to obtain relatively good gear from TBC quests… Those are my thoughts - optimizing.
