Let me tell you my concerns in the form of a crappy poem:
I want to RP
I want to PVP
The US has Grobbulus so this would be easy
but the EU does not and it would be hard
to attempt RP and LARP like a bard
yet even on Gehennas PVP is marred
so what are we to do but barrel into Thekal
and annoy the streamers, meta-memers and heckle
that of course, what the world needs is a brand new faecal
I think they should simply add one, no need to change Thekal.
Eu currently does not have RpPvp realm after the consolidation.
The very least they could have done was to keep the old one alive, but if not, they should make sure there is an alternative.
We donât play any less than US players so treat us the same please, give us the same options.
I for one will play it even if it means less players to play with.
Having more than one PVP fresh would mess things up
Making Hydraxian Waterlords RPPVP would be rude for the few players on there that just want to RP
EU does not currently have an RPPVP server
Maybe making Thekal RPPVP could encourage a different kind of playstyle that EU has not seen, which like Grobb, prevents it from merely becoming another Firemaw incident waiting to happen
There have been so many EU PVP servers that have outright failed, why do it again
But EU had an RP-PvP server. Zandalar Tribe had barely any spontaneous RP past the first months of Classic and was in most ways a normal medium pop PvP server with slightly weirder and more carebear populace than others. It hovered at around 2500 Alliance and 1500 Horde for Classic, then Horde death spiralled early TBCC and Alliance began to death spiral soon after, but was mercy-killed by a free transfer to Earthshaker this February. We had an RP-PvP server, and it died of itâs own volition, leaving only a couple dozen die hards who are now on Hydraxian Waterlords. Why make the same mistake? Experience shows very few peiple actually care about being on RP-PvP.
Making Thekal RpPvp is unlikely to happen and will be a lose-lose situation.
There are a lot of people who are waiting for fresh, you are going to take the server they are waiting for and give it to a smaller crowd which will be unfair and cause a lot of commotion.
It will also mean everyone who wanted fresh PvP will simply roll to RpPvp. You will beat the purpose of making RpPvp server as it will effectively be just another PvP server.
I donât think adding another realm will hurt the current one as most people given the option will not go for RP server.
It will give a new home to Zandlar - Tribe players who are coming back or were forcefully moved to Hydraxian - Waterlords and to new players who seek this type of server.
RP-pvp attracts a different type of player. Players who, in general, care more about the narrative immersion than those who do not roll on servers tagged for RP. Blizzard used to have a specific ruleset for players on RP servers with regards to charactersâ names, and while they werenât all that good at enforcing this rule RP-servers did have fewer silly names when compared to regular servers. Another side-effect of RP-pvp was that it attracted more mature players. I have heard this said by many people who play on RP-pvp but who do not roleplay; they come for the more relaxed climate.
⌠but in short: a new MMORPG came out, Season of Mastery came out and Free Transfers were opened up for the first time that sparked the narrative that Zandalar Tribe was similarly dead when compared to other servers. Which, for the record, it really wasnât. Also, TBCC was flawed in that there wasnât a lot for players to do unless you were part of a 25man raiding guild. As I detail in the link above, my own guild had found a similarly sized guild to do 25mans with, but that guild left to play New World and we didnât manage to find someone else to partner up with. So rather than rebrand to a raiding guild we simply took a break.
I returned to play the game in May, and I stayed on the server until the very last day. And even in the days leading up to the termination of the server, people were asking in the LFG chat about the server, completely oblivious to Kaivaxâs blueposts here on these forums. Because I donât think all that many people actually read these forums and Blizzard has not seen fit to communicate these rather drastic measures anywhere else.
This is so sad to read, Blizzard bulldozed over the realms without much thought, the same way they opened massive transfers not seeing how it will work to kill realms instead of saving them, killing whatever balance left.
The reasons youâve mentioned harmed so many realms, many are long gone, not only ZT. Pointing out its not populated and ignoring how many more suffered the same fate is misleading.
ZT had a much better chance of making a recovery with the new expansion than others, being the only RpPvp realm of choice. But was lumped up with the others without much thought to how its different from others.
It was such a wrong move to remove it without taking these things into account, simply leaving the realm for launch would have showed that. Even if it wouldnât end up populated (which I doubt) I do believe 1 RpPvp in the EU region should remain.
