I agree. The style is one of the things that helps preserve the game, at least in my opinion. However games that I’ve considered rather realistic years ago are nowhere near what I’d consider that now.
Besides, if I want my character to look realistic, there are still artists who can be commissioned ^^
One of the indicators of how good Dragonflight actually is, is the randomness and groundlessness of most of the complaints here.
You literally have to make stuff up.
“Quests seem written by the type of person who constantly wants to speak with the manager”, wtf does that even mean? xD
But then Dragonflight has some more somber stories. Overall it’s pretty light-hearted, but it’s not like that all the time. Some quests are straight up depressing.
And I’d like to know where this idea that pain=mature and friends=childish came from. It can easily be the opposite, as demonstrated by decades of edgy teen dramas.
Indeed. A great example of this could be numerous books with the theme of friendship even if there is strife. I suppose Lord of the Rings (I think we all know how famous that one is) could be one of these - and it is a masterpiece.

A lot of us are grownups and have played this game a long time, we sometimes forget it has an age 12 licence.
Well. Quickly found out who wants edgy, dark, gritty, things. I’m sorry, but sometimes you need a change of pace, you had your kind of content with Shadowlands.
Welcome change of pace coming out of shadowlands to be honest.
Just a general better spread of emotions all around instead of just constant doom and gloom as you walk through a dystopian afterlife that enslaves its denizens into eternal servitude for a total of 4 titan-esque beings to keep some cycle going or whatever and takes away any promise of a peacefull afterlife for everyone who visited it to witness it.
If I was one of those champions who witnessed what afterlife has in store for me I’d need either counseling or eternal life.
Constant doom and gloom and overbearing bleakness of Shadowlands created a very one-tone and ultimately boring narrative, whereas Dragonflight so far has given the story much needed levity and change in pace.
A point could be made that such lightheartedness after one/two expansions of egregiously traumatic events (f.e. genocide), it feels very jarring esp if sudden happy-go-luckiness is seen from Night Elves, but as a whole it’s still a whole lot more dynamic than previous expansions’ stories. This will also allow existing or future dark / sad / emotional moments to have more weight due to having something to contrast with.
Its kinda refreshing we dont deal with Gods, Karens and Titans for once, but we deal with old cool fantasy dragons :).
I have never heard of anyone expressing that they were proud of anything in SL.
I don’t mind Dragonflight not being dark, not every expansion has to. MoP wasn’t dark either and it was a great expansion.
For me it isn’t only that, but might be my all time favorite (unsure for 100% as Legion is also a candidate for that spot for me). But yeah, honestly I am having much more fun playing DF than SL and also feel like playing more due to the atmosphere.
People in general hated the shadowlands depressing themes and the majority of players want happy fun gameplay.
Yup. Many of us use this as a form of distraction from how things are in real life. I cannot speak for anyone but myself as this is very individual based, however for me it improves my mood when the majority of the story/aesthetic is happy rather than depressing. Of course, I do not mind outliers at all as long as they are low in number.
post edited.
Funny thing is that if you take the original word that gave birth of the “Centaur” is Greek and its called , Κένταυρος ----> meaning “The one who focuses his power (spiritually) to heal the other one’s Aura”
In mythology… Centaurs… were healers… not barbaric at all… later from Fiction games etc they swapped the theme and its taken for granted nowadays…
Just a small Geek info i wanted to share with you cause ive felt you do give a d@mn about originality of the races, thus the word its been translated wrong to the masses !
*Im sorry for my bad english i tried my best! Its not my 1st language.
That’s cool! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! nps!
Cause why not?
Legion was the end of world doom and gloom, and Shadowlands was just dark and depressing the the point I stopped playing as to how bad it was.
DF is change of pace for a change, plus it has Dragons and Tuskar so thats two big wins in my bool
The second quest you mention requires ability to read more then one sentence in a row AND to sit on one place for more then two seconds. You are asking OP too much I am afraid…
I won’t be surprised if the next few patches take on a darker theme.
