I play a Priest and I’m more than happy to respec to Holy to heal in dungeons, but I ask in World chat throughout the day and I never get an invite.
I’m not sure what else to do at this point… I was initially going to just level to 60 and PvP in BGs but considering it’s not yet in game I don’t have much else to do but dungeons.
I started this without expectations but I am disappointed that end game feels so… dead? I’m on one of the most populated PvP servers yet I am still struggling to find a group.
Finding tank during 30-55 to non-cleave dungeon and non-princess maraudon run is very very time-costing.
“play tank then” I did, for 7 years 15 years ago. Not picking warrior this time and rest don’t cut the mustard. (and horde only got one other choise which is furry )
At lvl44, spec to healing and look for ZF cleaving group, you shouldnt have problem to be in dung 24/7 unlike half of other classes, not suited for cleave/aoe madness.
Yea it’s pretty difficult finding tanks for dungeons. If you’re not on the majority level range where most tanks happen to be or tank is not interested in running certain dungeon because they don’t get upgrades from there, it’s gonna be tough. Any later than prime play time is especially rough.
Always make friends with the tanks you play with if they’re amendable, it’ll prolly help you in the long run if you have some tank friends who like to dungeon with you.
I’m playing priest, have no such issues. I never started group myself, always joined someone else’s group.
You are playing on bad realm full of hardcore wannabe kids, who make cleave groups, skip whatever they can skip and rush to max level. If you want to experience vanilla properly with friendly players, play on HW. There is no PvP though, but there is occasional RP, which is awesome!
Just start your own groups. It’s much easier than getting into someone else’s group. Being a leader also has its’ perks, for instance, you don’t have to follow orders from some noob who has never been to this dungeon that you are doing and wipes the group, also you decide level of other people you want in your groups, you can bring friends in this way, reserve item if you are farming one, etc.
I find people qt any time of the day.
Whether it’s existing groups or a group I start myself.
Now that i’m 59 i get found by groups to tank literally anything.
Are you on the LFG channel?
And is there another channel like “world” like we have on Shazzrah for instance.
Those channels are spammed 24/7.
I usually don’t take “shadow priests” as DPS, to begin with. You have a DoT and a wand - that’s it. Mind Flay does less damage than your wand, unless the latter is really, really bad or you have +shadow spell damage, and as a tank I hate priests that use Mind Blast for anything different than last-hitting.
I’m currently leveling with my gf who’s playing a shadow priest. So far, she has healed me in every single dungeon we’ve completed.
I found that for me the most efficient way to get into a dungeon is to make the group myself. Being in a popular guild helps - so far I was always able to find a few group members there, either in the guild chat, either by looking up people in my level bracket and whispering them. I always ask them if they are willing to tank/heal or dps beforehand, never assuming anyone’s role. When the party is almost formed is always really quick to find the remaining players.
Also sometimes its OK to be flexible. Earlier today I had the best dungeon run - we were 2 mages, 2 pallys and 1 warrior. No dedicated tank neither healer, but we managed to clear stockades in the shortest amount of time, had no difficulties with it and had a good laugh on the way.
Getting into a group is quite a bit lengthier than just starting my own group.
It’s funny at times to see 2/3 dps and a healer typing ‘LFG’ for the same dungeon… not realising they could band together and just try and find a tank already.
Also what helps: don’t go for perfect group compositions. Take whatever you find, you’ll be able to make it work. Even when the player’s aren’t great. Just coach them and you’ll get through.
I advise against this. I’ve done this 2-3 times so far, and all of these have ended with ~2h of wasted time and unnecessary wipes. Also, you can’t coach a total noob who doesn’t understand what you’re telling him or someone who doesn’t even speak English.
My 2 pieces of advice for making fool-proof groups:
don’t take underleveled people, even as healers. They will underpeform, no matter if they’re good or not, due to simple math and mechanics. Also, a good player will not look for groups for a dungeon they’re too low level for because they would not want to embarrass themselves and/or get carried. So if the person is underleveled, chances are they’re a noob.
replace people who do not communicate before the start of the dungeon. Every time a person is invited, a greeting and some small talk is expected. If the person doesn’t respond, chances are they don’t even speak English or they are such a noob that they aren’t even looking at chat more than once every 10 minutes. Either way, you do not want such a person in the group. They will attack the wrong target, they will separate from the group, they will slow the group down due to quests they don’t know how to finish (and don’t know how to ask). If they continue to show a lack of communication before the start of the dungeon and you get whispers from other people, just replace them.
I know a lot of people will instantly hate me for giving you these two tips. My reply inb4 the hate: “that’s because you lack the ability to profile people (maybe due to the mentality of retail where people rarely talk anyway, maybe due to lack of experience and insight), which will ultimately lead you to making bad groups”
tl; dr If the person is underleveled and/or if his communication is bad, just dump them (especially if it’s a hunter).
Healing doesn’t require a dedicated specc in vanilla, only dedicated class and decent caster gear; a shadowpriest can heal just fine.
On that topic, the same applies to tanking; any warrior, druid or paladin can do it, at least throughout the levelling part of the game.
Heck, a sufficiently skilled Shaman can do it…
Skill can be an issue, but you can’t tell skill levels until you see them in action, and even if the skill level is low, the rest of the group can usually compensate.
