Why no gender/race change yet?
Blizzard broke “no changes” rule like million times already
Because people think it will break immersion. I disagree, however. When I was ranking on my priest (16hrs/day), two months in they said on disc: “I have never even noticed you were a troll priest”. So people don’t even notice your race anyways, they only notice your name. So only the name should stay the same throughout Classic IMO.
It has nothing do to with immersion or other non sense.
It’s the idea that every decision you make in this game matters. It’s something that differentiate Classic from Retail, here you must work hard for everything, at least in theory. You are not “Champion” here from the start.
As for the “no changes rule broke like million times” well… that’s obviously not true. Much so as the changes made were more like adjustments due to higher population compared to Vanilla and anyway there were just a few to start with.
Also, #nochanges isn’t = to “perfect recreation of Vanilla”, it’s just playing the same game, not the same experience. Most people are very confused over this.
I don’t want “gender/race change yet” I want it never. Not that is bothering me so much, but because it will open the gate for other “good and harmless” ideas.
For example many will demand Tokens as Gold is already bought and sold in Classic, hard to argue isn’t it?
Or dungeon finder because why have that and not this and so on.
Before you know it we will play Classic Retail.
It’s quite simple in principle, and that’s why I like the #nochanges. You don’t get to put your silly stuff in the game and neither do I.
Obviously this isn’t perfect as we see with the Honor system but still it’s the lesser evil.
If this explanation makes sense to you, fine, if not I guess you should #gobacktoRetail :).
#changes would have made a better Classic experience though. #nochanges has been the curse of this community. This world buff meta, for instance, could have been prevented. Why not improve the game with such an easy change?
its much easier to you because you play Horde
When playing Alliance you cant just ignore the race and accept player “as they are”
This is a subjective opinion, wich is in your right ofc.
Blizzard brought back Vanilla WoW with all it’s flaws and glory. This is after all a recreation of an old game with minimal upgrades to represent the game as it was.
This is our sandbox game now and we the community controll to a certain degree whats going on inside the game.
It might not be to everyones liking, but one have to accept that this is how it was and this is what we got.
Balls, hair and everything.
With simple changes we would have a bigger playerbase and a much more enjoyable game. But yes, you are right, it is just my opinion. I enjoy Classic because of the gameplay, not because of what my character looks like, so a race change I could not care less about.
The dangerous part about implementing “new” changes into an old game would be what changes are accepted and which is not and if 1 change is accpeted why not the other?
Few things I picked up that players want:
- LFG tool
- Old AV
- Increased difficulty of raids and dungeons
- Apperance change shop
- Dual Talent specs
- Cheaper respecs
- Higher respawns of Herbs and Mining Nodes
- No leeway/baching
- No World Buffs or atleast limited
- Progressive itemization
- Real recreation of Vanilla WoW with every patch implemented as they were back then in a progressive matter.
and probably tons of other nitpicked changes that each individual would like.
Yep. I agree.
If I could choose one thing to change in Classic and 1 thing only, it would be to bring back Survival spec pre 1.7
Because we don’t need it.
What similar change to gender/race change have Blizzard introduced into Classic?
No changes is not a rule, it’s a goal and philosophy.
Changes are indeed the tools for improvement in anything but they don’t always work, do they?
Retail changed expansion by expansion and doing so for many that wasn’t an improvement.
I think most people knew that Vanilla was with it’s flaws. Countless flaws.
Attempting to fix them would’ve required 1000 changes just to get started.
It would’ve made more sense to release a Classic+ from the start.
And ofc the cherry on top, who could’ve knwon how things will be after release? Even the population was way off the charts.

its much easier to you because you play Horde
When playing Alliance you cant just ignore the race and accept player “as they are”
I honestly don’t know what are you talking about.
Gender would make no difference, race would as it’ll change everything in classic.
Especially regarding rogues/warriors etc.
If I had a choice once TBC comes out, I’d love to faction change to become a blood elf.
Only reason I picked alliance was due to the fact horde had no blood elves XD.
Because it is a slippery slope that leads to retail!
Blizzard could just allow add-ons like iMorph and everybody would be happy. No immersion breaking of any sort since only the player who uses the mod can see the changes to his/her character.
Ok there are a lot of posts to respond here but let me try to put it briefly. I think both zealots of the nochanges religion and people asking for radical changes here are wrong.
-
About nochanges:
Not changing the core game mechanics and philosophies is a good idea, but the goal is to keep the experience as close to the original vanilla. Nochanges for the sake of nochanges is a farce, nochanges was a means towards trying to reach a goal, it was not the goal itself. So, if there are broken or unfun things in the game that appeared in classic and didn’t happen in vanilla, they should be fixed(changed).
Spell batching, 20 yard leeway, world buff meta, stupid imbalanced and gimped AV etc. are things that should have been changed and they wouldn’t be against the core vanilla philosophies, they would in fact make the game feel a lot more authentic and similar to original vanilla. -
About dual talent/LFG etc:
These changes are clearly over the top and they contradict the core philosophies of the game so I don’t approve. -
About race change:
I am totally ok with barber shop AND gender change. But race change is not only about appearance. Your race totally changes your gameplay, you get new unique abilities etc. and races in classic are NOT balanced for different aspects of the game.
If race change was a thing, every horde player would change to undead/orc while they are ranking in pvp and once they reach rank 14 they would swap to troll for pve parses. Every alliance player would go gnome/dwarf until they reach their desired rank then swap to human for pve.
edit: Every scarab lord candidate would go human until they finish the farm. Every alliance player would also go human when they are farming a reputation like wintersaber trainers then swap back to another race.
I can give you hundreds of examples like these. This is extremely short-sighted and ridicilous for a game(classic) where your race completely makes a world of difference in how you play the game. -
Final remarks:
Some changes are good, some changes are bad. As rational human beings we can argue and differentiate between them, this isn’t just black and white. And “once you make one change people will demand more” argument is totally archaic. If people demand more, as a developer company you can just say no or ignore them, you can’t just use this as an excuse to have bad mechanics in a game.
With this logic men would still be living in caves and throwing stones in 2021. You rationally can decide which changes are good and which are bad.

Spell batching, 20 yard leeway, world buff meta, stupid imbalanced and gimped AV etc. are things that should have been changed and they wouldn’t be against the core vanilla philosophies, they would in fact make the game feel a lot more authentic and similar to original vanilla.
One could only dream.
Good points overall
Tbh possibility of race/gender change is something i would love to see. I created Dwarf warrior primarily for TBC taking into account racials and got him to 58 lvl and one day my friend throw me some male Human ghost suit and i realised how awesome Human Warrior looks for my standards not to mention all awesomness in S3 aesthetically speaking.
