Why the level 58 boost is bad for the game #stoptheboost

Blizzard, remove the boost.
High level characters are a ressource, and ressources shouldn’t be bought with real time money, but earned in the game.

We don’t need a boost. All we need is some determination.

Here’s what’s wrong: it is just another thing that breaks the game contract(as Kevin Jordan calls it), which is the idea that “everything you have in the game has been earned in the game” and not by real life money, social status etc.
When you keep breaching the border between ingame and real life, everything means less and less in the game.

It is also leaked. It works as the same way as the bundles that Blizzard is selling on retail for many years now.
It will be offered as “burning crusade deluxe edition” which includes 6 months sub + a level 58 boost + this mount for a price.

After the bundle expires, it will most probably be put in the ingame store, because this has been done many, many times on retail the exact same way. They don’t make these bundle mounts unobtainable after the offer period is over.
That is done, so many times in retail and what makes you think that it won’t be done now in TBC?

I guess there’s one silver lining. Every person we see on a Boostchaser Mount will be instantly identified as a booster.

If we’re waitiing outside a portal for a tank, and the tank turns up on one of those damned things we can be reasonably confident that it’s Little Timmy, who never tanked in his life, but used Daddy’s credit card to buy himself a L58 Warrior so he can play with the big boys.

Good way to avoid a nightmare wipe fest and huge repair bill.

Yeah those were the days. The argument that Blizzard can’t do this anymore because they lack the budget is laughable.

basically a scuffed madseason video. Pretty good none the less.

That’s Asmongold right? Though he seems to be using his real name now.

Never enjoyed his videos, and after he made a fuss about how great Classic was, and then cleave-boosted his way to 60 and quit he didn’t endear particularly himself to me.

Still, he’s a big hitter, perhaps the biggest. If Blizzard are going to pay attention to anyone, it would be him.

He has this channel for 7-8 years now.

He uses his “Asmongold” channel as a persona, that is more about ingame content and entertaining spergs. But he uses his real name “Zack” channel for serious issues and less entertaining videos like this.
He is actually a pretty intelligent guy, despite his real life academic/educational achievements. But he just acts silly or do stupid stuff on his stream just to get more views. I can’t blame him for that, he is professionally doing this stuff at the end of the day, and I don’t think 300k kids would watch someone who talks very philosophically on twitch and acts normal.
I also thought very negatively on him seeing how bad he is at the game dying to stupid stuff and falling off his mount while flying etc. all the time, then I realized that he is doing them just to get the memes going. Came across him in some MMOs randomly and he was just actually playing and grinding normally off-stream.

Just take stuff that he does on his stream with a pinch of salt, he is just trying to keep kids spamming the chat.

I’ve watched his boost vid, and it was well put together. Wish he wasn’t using it himself though. At least he’s honest.

Most people will do this. Would rather it wasn’t in the game but use it anyway and to be honest, I don’t blame them due to some of the reasons I listed in the OP.

Same, y’all know that I’m fighting hard against the boost on every platform but I will use it as well.

I like to be powerful in video games and optimize my character, that is how I enjoy video games, I like to compete for high ranks on different aspects of the game. I don’t want to start a game with a disadvantage.

So if they put the boost in the game I have 2 options left:

  1. quit the game
  2. use the boost holding my nose.

So I will also boost 1 character at least to use as a transmute alt and make gold. Or maybe i will quit wow for good and start playing New World/ashes of creation. I want to see a bit more about those games beta tests and if they are looking good I might as well.

Does it suck? Yes. But it’s not my or asmongold’s fault that they put it in the game. It’s the developers that need to keep these things in balance. As he says above, if there was an option to buy 100 million gold for 30 euros on the cash shop, I would probably do it, or quit the game. I don’t wanna be weak in a video game and get humiliated.

I want to share a personal story that will possibly attract some of the trolls but I have a few minutes for my instance lockout so will do it anyway:

I have played super hardcore until WoD, then after seeing WoD I quit raiding&pvp etc and just was occasionally playing wow maybe a few days every 3 months, just to collect mounts or do garrison missions, my sub was mostly cancelled.
Then in Legion I jumped back into the scene. I joined a good famout raiding guild, had good hopes to bust all those mythic raids and being a top elemental shaman.

Then just after reaching max level, I got the trash legendary ring called sephuz’s secret. It gives me pain even today remembering that effing ring (they buffed it later i know but who cares). There was another elemental shaman in the guild(I played in another guild with) that randomly got the BiS shoulders, which gives you like a 15% flat dps increase.

Then I got benched from the raids and the other shaman got my spot. Talked to the guild leadership, they told me “well we know you are a much better player but he got the shoulders so he will do more dps. just keep farming dungeons and if you get a good dps legendary we will replace you with him.” I kept farming for a week or two, all day, every day. And then I got a legendary, when I forgot restoration as my loot spec and I got a trash healing trinket as my second legendary.

That day I wrote a farewell message in guild discord and quit wow. Only played a bit in BfA to see how horrible and shallow the game is.

So, moral of this story:

There will be this dude in your guild that will boost 20 different characters and start printing gold, he will get his full spellfire set the second week and you will be benched because you are still running with classic items or dungeon blues.
Or there will be this guy who will craft Stormherald and kick your b in arenas with a stormherald when the first day arena releases and oneshot your with his amazing swifty macro.

That is the day that there is no enjoyment or fun left in this game. Once you give some people the opportunity to win the game with something through RNG or real life money (not earned by hardwork that they did on their own) the game loses all its purpose and meaning.
This is why almost everyone I know quit retail over the years and will quit TBC the same way.
It doesn’t happen in one day, however. These kind of things create apathy and dissent over time, in a period, and every other similar element like this adds up on top of each other. Of course people won’t instantly quit TBC right away the day wow token will be added.
It is a death of a thousand cuts.

How is a 58 boost going to help you be competitive and rank? You forgot a 3rd option ‘continue one of my already lvl 60s’.

You guys are disgusting and have zero integrity.
Enjoy the boost anti-boosters.

I just explained it in the post right below but I don’t think you have the capacity to understand.

You can craft a lot of BiS or pre-BiS items in TBC, which require a lot of gold, and buying boost gives the player an indirect way of buying crafting items/and gold. A warrior with stormherald in arena will almost always beat a warrior without a stormherald(esp in s1) and crafting these items are extremely expensive.

Also flagged your post for the insults, hope you get banned for good this time.

See you in 3 days :sob::sob:

Well I will not be using the boost. I’ll die before using it.

It is mostly an issue of taste and style.

Some people can be ok with playing a game more casually or not optimally but still be happy.
Some people (like meself) enjoy by optimizing and being the top dog and be happy with that sort of gaming.

But the good thing with MMOs are that we can all have our different tastes and play the same game in different ways. We are all MMORPG players and at least we can agree that paid boosts and services shouldn’t be put in the game and is harmful to the feeling of accomplishment that it provides.

But you’ll still show your support to the cause by buying a boost <3.

Edit: So in a way you are actually worse than I am.
I’m just defending the boost because it’s harmless to me and my gameplay, and let the others choose whether or not they’ll use one, idc, but activision won’t see a single penny from my pockets.
You guys blow it out of proportion, make it sound like this boost is LITERALLY the WORST and then on top of that you’re going to pay activision for a boost yourself.
Where’s that damn clown emoji
