Not saying you don’t have your place, but the rush and excitement of a fresh start and an even playing field is better than a stale server that has reached it’s peak long ago.
It’s only logical the population of Era servers will decline with each passing year.

We differ on what is better. Definitely not for me.
And following that logic it makes no sense we are growing.
In any case, havin a re-release would not necesarily be bad for era since a % of those players could eventually decide to join us once Classic 2.0 was over / not moving to TBC.
Time will tell.
There should be constant cycle of fresh that merges to era. Or at least clear rules that it happens evey year like with custom season. TBD / TBA seasons or just fresh are worse as people just dont know if/when things happen.

True, but I think this is in part because people miss Classic Vanilla and cuz there’s zero plans for fresh so far. If given the choice I’m sure more than half the population would pick a fresh phase 1 classic server in a heartbeat.

That’s pure speculation. There is no data for this.
As of now there wasnt any major indicators players want fresh or nochanges. Two vanilla pserver launches failed, third one, most hyped expects around 5k at launch globally which is low. On top of that a lot of existing players either uses boosts or sticks to existing realms for wotlk. Even when fresh players gather up there are others that just can’t cope with releveling again.
There is also som. People leveled and then started quitting. The question is was it due to cost of endgame or just didnt wanted to finish leveling.
A good data point will be WoTLK fresh realms - their population and how much players will backtrack from them during prepatch. The weaker they get the less serious fresh classic will be for Blizzard.
And in wotlk classes will be popping off, all specs. Doubt people suddenly will want to go back where most specs dont function and not to mention - perform.
My bet would be for season 2 to be with rebalancing and/or tbc class design based .
Actually population is increasing. Slowly, but steady. People are leaving TBC and returning “home”.
I do expect some quite empty servers the first months into WotLK (and possibly a SOM2 in November), but I am pretty sure after that “we” will gain players again.
Who knows?

lets just agree that you dont actually pvp - as you stated - and experience so far suggests that as a new char you will have a very hard time. so yes, if you want to pvp you would be a lot better off with a new classic server
Here is what is gonna happen fresh gonna kick in all will race to the top, most ppl will be left behind the curve, and quit, some will lose the hype once they hit lvl 60 and quit coz there is only 1 MC per week, imagine being a warrior dps and have only MC to gear up…
Also in fresh u ether play with frends/guildies or u ether being left behind as solo no1 will bother to help u with dungeons elites everyone has his own crew to get going. And all that only to divide community and then half of those who got divided quit a month after. Is like having a “pie” slicing it in half and throw the other half to the trash can. Era is great and totally feels like fresh and better than fresh imo at this point, all it wants is more population, and besides we are soo spread around where u can relive the fresh experience here aswell. There been such kind of projects, where guilds rolled to low pop realms and made it feel like fresh exp. Not to mention u just did SoM(fresh) and died in 5 weeks. Just if u wanna play the true classic experience come to era, no bots/gdkp/goldsellers/toxicity as som had or ur re-fresh will have, here there is only a big bunch of buddies new and old timers from 05, thats the true classic exp, if someone is out there reading this and consider playing classic era, dont hesitate do it now! You simply wont regret it.

In a new classic server u will get stomped… premade after premade. And as a new or undergeared player they will never invite u in a premade ever. Not to mention u will have to buy gold for the bg consumables and if u dont bring consumables in a premade u get kicked out of it. And yes i dont pvp atm, i had my fair share back then besides kinda borring to wait 2 bg pops for a whole day as u mentioned. But im pretty sure once SoM end some ppl come to era this might change, and also there might be even more balanced bgz, time will tell. But the fact “i just lose in bgs-gimme fresh” doesnt stand with any reason, coz there ur experience gonna be 10 times worse. Unless u play the spoiled alliance AV like in SoM where is auto-win by default coz alliance have several mobs to defend base while horde mobs partol somewhere off in the forest, but yet again u will have 2h que, as it used to be back at the start of som.
I have a hard time understanding what makes people stress out so much about achieving things as quick as possible, witnessing GDKP raids taking over, max gold inflation, bots running with impunity, single faction servers, same faction bgs and a long etc having Era as a viable option.
The only explanation I have is unadulterated herd mentality. Everyone is doing so I guess I have to. In fact, Blizzard caters to this mindset today more than ever. Good games? Matter less than our playerbase’s animal spirits.
But ofc in such a war of attrition, mafias, lobbies, specific guilds arise and end up draining the limited resources a server has to offer relative to its population (including layers), when they are no straight up cheating to gain an advantage.
People are catching up that a whole different experience is possible and available. But still, it seems hard to comprehend at times. I guess my concept of fun is just far from that of the majority.

actually playing PVP. as you conceeded you dont actually do. alli pvp is frustrating as hell and i doubt that a lot of ppl will subject themselves to it lol

its ex-R14 /Naxx horde ppl farming BGs because they have nothing better to do. there is not much philosophy behind it.
Well, it is a matter of philosophy when it comes to what Era means to me.
There is no rush. 2 weeks vacation? all good. Back in a month? Happy to see you again.
I am a known player in a community that I enjoy being a part of.
I talk to a lot of people, and I enjoy the MMO aspect of the game a lot.
There is a healthy amount of drama, some griefers here and there, but nothing game breaking.
To your point, I have never entered Naxx, and I have been R11 twice. I am pretty well geared pre-Naxx, and I believe im quite competitive in PvP.
I also have a gnome mage, R10 blue geared that I use mainly for flag carrying. Challenging at times but lots of fun.
Again, not judging you, nor your impressions or your vision. Its just that they seem very, very different from mine, which is fine man!

Hmmm this is true. There’s always pressure in the progressive servers that you won’t have enough time before the next phase starts. Every reset is another chance at that bis loot. I’ve never looked at it like this.
This was my gripe with TBC Classic. Blizz has the idea to rush everything and it baffles me they chose to abandon TBC after only a year and a few months. Wrath will be the same.

But you can complain about pvp, and ask for fresh realm because one lone mage feels depressed bout the winrate in bgz, we dont need fresh we need more ppl in classic and ur win rate gonna get simply better… u wont have to play with same ppl over and over… also u got naxx gear in alliance too i cant see the whole point we lose from naxx geared horde, alliance can farm that also o.0
again - you dont actually pvp, as you stated.
In my opinion and experience, PVP in Era is broken. It is fun for a few Naxx geared people one shotting everyone else and thats it. That is why i think for pvp we would be better off with a fresh classic server than try to catch up.
The more ppl have naxx gear, the worse the BGs will become. The only endstate i can see is a one-shot fest. BGs were never designed for this level of damage
I highly doubt that. I havent seen any blue geared mages carry a flag more than 10m in the four weeks i have been back
alli doesnt have shamans - which are a big part of the problem. Either way, more Naxx gear overall will mean BGs become more of a broken one-shot fest
