A solo queue option would literally have no downside, it would only help those who are unable to get people via LFG or are unable to get enough in their guild
Depends how “solo queue” is addressed, the way people perceive it is very skewered and would have a lot of down sides including potential of adding more pointless brackets.
That is sad. As a healer, I cannot imagine changing my main role, I have been so used to getting invited quickly, with even a leeway of 100 rating points. #soloQ
And what would the downsides be? Stuff that is typically mentioned:
“It will take away the player base from RBG and random BGs”. The popularity of RBGs is dropping hard due to the hassle of LFG. So the people that are doing RBGs typically play only a handful of games a week. Solo queue would mean you can queue whenever you want, hassle-free. The number of active pvp players will increase by a huge number. And ppl who used to play once a week…will be a lot more active. In soloq you can add good/ fun players so you whont need to use LFG for traditional RBGs. On top of that i would add seperate incentives per bracket so there is still a reason to play teamq RBGs.
“People will be super toxic” Yes and no. Once you climb a bit ppl will realize that distracting your team with toxic chat will decrease your chances of winning. From my perspective as a reasonably rated/experienced soloq GW2 player I see 0 toxic players once you break mid-tier ratings. If i go in to random BGs in either GW2 or wow…there is always toxic behaviour since ppl don’t care about winning there. Thats a huge improvement over our current situation.
“It will be all about luck and ppl will get stuck in ELO hell due to that”. In GW2 there are always the same ppl that get to decent to top ratings. Good players will find a way to get there even if they can get unlucky sometimes as well. I played like 10 seasons in that game and always reached plat 2 - legend. In soloq ppl typically play specs that give them the biggest chance of success as well. So it’s not like the queue will be filled with underdog specs all day. And the guy that does is typically a lot better than the meta players since he got ok ratings with an underdog spec.
“There will be a huge gear difference between ppl just like in random BGs”. I would cap the ilvl in lower brackets. So your average ilvl gets brought down to:
During off days there are 40-50 ppl playing RBGs at 2.2+ according to xunamates activity tracker. Thats the total number in EU. The vast majority being boosters teams. I screenshot every game im in…at least 50% of those are professional boosting teams. Not allowed to post them on the forums due to naming and shaming rules. Otherwise i would.
So I want to play with legit teams i have to wait for hours in some LFG system. A system that destroys any pvp community we had left.
If i want to play rated pvp i have to schedule everything. And hope everyone shows up…if they dont youll have to wait for hours or just postpone RBGs to another day or even another week.
Playing in the morning or even right now is impossible as player at 2.2+ mmr. Since 0.00 last night 2 teams played RBG at 2.2+. One team three hours ago…and one team 6 hours ago.
Its not just at higher rating. Ive seen ppl at 1.6 that had to wait multiple days to get in to groups.
Ah yes the good old “just get friends” meanwhile everyone is antisocial in the game and getting a guild that is actually friendly is a christmas miracle
