We are aware of a major slowdown with game downloads likely resulting in this issue. Our team is already on the case working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Two possible workarounds that could help are listed below until we get this fully resolved:
Try clearing the Battle.net cache files following the steps Here.
Try logging out of the Battle.net Desktop app. Goto the Cog icon above your Email and switch to a different region. If you are in Europe try the Americas. Then switch back once the game is downloaded or fully updated.

ok I have the same problem. Is there a blue post on this ? I see this thread has run nearly a day now. The reason I asked is that I resubbed hoping things were going to be different.

I had the same problem with being stuck on initializing for about 2 hours.
After setting up a VPN Connection (to Canada), I closed Bnet from taskmanager and restarted it. Even though it’s going slowy, it is downloading now. (Download speeds ranging between 20kbs to 150kbs)
I hope this helps any of you guys out there, but I might just have been “lucky”.
EDIT: Tried to turn off the VPN to see it influenced the speed and it’s faster (200kb/s) now. Using a VPN might trigger the update to start, so worth a shot.
