I did the same earlier, it does eventually download the battle.net app just goes very very very slowly

Same situation here. Love blizzard, one comes at home after a long workday hoping to play and this… i really wanted to post some nice things about how you suck, but i will control myself. So you dont ban me.
At any rate, this is absolutely a reason for 1) uninstall game 2) suspend payment 3) give you a huge ****

The issue clearly is not on our end, it’s the download server as it is impacting downloads not just for the WoW client but other games, between the prepatch for WoW and new CoD release the download server just broke outright, nothing we can do but wait

Posted this a bit further up. Might be worth a try as it worked for both me and a friend:
I had the same problem with being stuck on initializing for about 2 hours.
After setting up a VPN Connection (to Canada), I closed Bnet from taskmanager and restarted it. Even though it’s going slowy, it is downloading now. (Download speeds ranging between 20kbs to 150kbs)
I hope this helps any of you guys out there, but I might just have been “lucky”.
EDIT: Tried to turn off the VPN to see it influenced the speed and it’s faster (200kb/s) now. Using a VPN might trigger the update to start, so worth a shot.

update: I had the same problem as you guys, just make sure yours is at the ‘initializing’ stage and let it do it’s thing, it will start downloading after a while (slowly). Took me about 30 minutes of waiting

Tried all over, no joy - 1hr 45mins now 
Ok so it downladed after 2 hours and now when i launch the game i get a critical error…NICE!!!
all the money we pay to wow u think they would have had this all sorted i hope we get game time for this

I think you can pretty much try setting up a VPN via the moon, this ain’t downloading until Blizz fix whatever the problem is at their end tbh.
