WoW download stuck on "initializing"

been stuck for 4 hours now all I’m getting in scan and repair fail

as told above. switch from europe to american…europe seems to be slow and the american initialization needs only 5 minutes from germany. before i tried it i was waiting 5 hours for it and now it?s downloading

Hello all. So, I logged on 20 mins ago -walked right into the Initializing… issue, and got bored after 5 mins. I googled it, found this thread and read it all.
Seemed to me people weren’t resolving this issue by trying obscure stuff involving reinstalls, VPNs and other crap - what was really fixing it was reconnecting to the update servers over and over until you manage to connect. I closed the Battle Net update agent in Task Manager twice, and each time it re-opens itself, it tries reconnect. One of those attempts will succeed. Seems this is quicker than closing B Net or anything else… Just kill the app in Task Manager, wait for the Initializing… bar to flash and show a reconnect attempt, and cross your fingers. This will work eventually. I’m in and playing after closing the update agent twice. Good luck.

Windscibe VPN and America Region to start/finish download und switch back to EU worked for me.

game started after like 12 minutes after clicking play

Sweet it’s downloading finally

The closing the update agent isn’t working for me. It starts to calculate as numbers come up, then it goes back to initializing and repeats and it’s been like that for 3 hours. Nothing I’ve tried has worked. I thought it was my client, so I deleted WoW and copied the Interface and WTF folders. I’ve tried resetting the bnet cache, I’ve tried VPNs, I’ve tried multiple restarts of my computer and client, I’ve found no solution that’s worked.

YeeeeeeeeeY!!! I’ve gotten 372bytes, then back to stuck at initializing!

Please Blizzard, resolve this we do trust in your capabilities!

Hello! I had the same issue and I fixed it doing this.

I have an SSD and a HDD. My games are in the HDD. For some reason, Battle.net changed my downloading path to the SSD. I am not sure if this caused the infinite loop, but I tried changing it to the HDD path. Then, I restarted Battle.net and the download started without any issue.

If you have a similar setup as mine, I encourage you to try it. If Battle.net has the path correctly set, try reapplying it again.

Also, please Blizzard, its 2022, this silly issues shouldnt be happening.

Ok… finally it worked. Installing BN (after uninstalling to fix the problem) and updating the WoW. I just waited longer for both of those processes. It looks like there is some problem to connect to the updating servers. Try to wait more, worked for me. Good luck!

It is working 5 hours later - I only wanted Hearthstone & Wrath - Blizzard has to change the Battlenet updates - linking updates together. It was only a 1 min download anyway. Turned off until tomorrow saga.

I also tried everything by now - after trying to reinstall left my computer on while I went to sleep. Guess what’s it’s on 7%, not even downloading but initializing… But at least not there’s a red !, that they are working on it

The Blue posters on the US forums, have admitted there is a problem with Blizzards CDN (Content Delivery Network) preventing people from updating, and that their teams are working to identify and fix the issue.

Why this information hasn’t been relayed to us here in the EU, I don’t know. I guess we really are an afterthought that doesn’t matter.

Could someone explain what’s happening? I remember a ~5gb download few days ago, now there’s a hotfix and it is reclaiming that much disk space. Two weeks ago the same thing happened but it was around ~10gb.

Meanwhile game performance was completely decimated and I’m not talking about having 5 FPS while 200 dragons are shooting the same mob with their laser in Barrens.

THANK YOU. I just tried this, connecting to Canada having reset my VPN and it worked, downloading in about 15 seconds.

Truly helpful!

I had update issues too. First sad some thing goes wrong try another shot, and its stuck here. Second time, on the initializing stuck what I find many have promblems with it. Orm me that was was the way how I fixed it:

  1. Try uninsta the game from battle net–> didnt work
  2. Uninstal the game after a restart manualli( find the game folder den DEL)
  3. Some files didn delet( i find out if you cant delet a file simple pressing delet the file get corrupted)
  4. You cen delet files witch shift+delet(be warnd its penament delet)
  5. start download the game again.
It seem it wors form me only issu with this, i deleted the game about 3 times when it get finaly download and second of all with bad download speed it will take a lot of time to download again about 90gb, so I only recommend this as a last resoult. I hope if other options cant help you this will.

So I paid for an early access Evoker, pre-downloaded all the patches, but now nothing works, I cannot even log in the game, scanning&reparing crashes and it keeps glitching out…

Is there gonna be compensation for the lost time? Some of us have to go to work and cannot stay by the laptop the entire day… or have been waiting for a long *ss time to play the game and now this happens…

I get Blizzard is working on it, but at least give us an update, a solution and afterwards some compensation. Now I feel like an invalued customer.

OK, so this morning, after some second of suspance, it went over the “initialisig”. I’m in.
Two notes:

  • I didn’t try the VPN way because the login credentials weren’t working and I was tired.
  • I red the comment of a guy that just closed the Blizzard Agent process on TASK MANAGER until it worked.

Agreed seems kinda redundant prepurchasing things and not being able to plah them

Off to work i go thank you for the great experience of sat watching a blue progress bar not move for several hours and zero game time … keep up the great work that you do, oh and taking money under false pretences…
