What is there is good for the most part, but imo Blizzard has gone too far in the direction of ‘you don’t need to play’. I want urgency, I want to have something to work towards that takes a long time and feels worthwhile. I’m playing an MMORPG because I like it when I log in I always have something to do. But that’s not the case in DF; there’s too much catering to the ‘big 3’ players who feel they ‘have to do’ things. What about the players that WANT to do things? What about the players that don’t WANT to be done?
That’s why in 3 days my sub lapses and I’m taking a break.
Maybe I’ll return for a month for 10.1 and then take another break; because as far as I can tell there’s nothing to keep me engaged for longer than that. And that’s a real shame imo because DF has cool stuff.
It’s not a bad expansion; it just doesn’t have things to keep you playing for long.
That’s not what I’m asking for.
I’m asking for OPTIONS. For optional, but still worthwhile, reasons to do things. For grinds that take a long time, but are worth doing for players like me.
At least moving the needle a little bit more to the other side again. In true Blizzard fashion, they’ve gone from one extreme to another. They have to learn they can also just do things less extreme.
Also: Please don’t say ‘most of players’. You don’t know that and you don’t have numbers for that. Just say what YOU want because that’s the only one you speak for.
That’s a very selfish and toxic stance to take.
I’m not suggesting that you should be forced to do those things.
I’m suggesting that I (and like-minded players) have the OPTION (the choice) to do such things for rewards that feel worthwhile while not impeding on ‘big 3’ territory.
See how there can be solutions without just thinking ‘screw those other players’?
And they haven’t returned for DF, so that speaks for itself.
It wasn’t the grind that was the problem. Or they would’ve come back.
SL had WAY more issues than just that. And like it or not, but non big 3 players make up a larger part of the playerbase than you think. Devs have alluded to that.
It was mostly driven by players thinking there was a “good-bad-good expansion” cycle and people asked for daily grinds to be removed at the end of BFA (and many assumed they would). Since they didn’t deliver on that, they also doubled down on underlined issues so of course Blizzard grinded down players will to play. It’s like fool me once but not twice.
That still doesn’t ‘explain’ why they haven’t returned yet. There’s PLENTY of information out there that DF doesn’t have such grinds or mandatory content.
So again; that speaks for itself.
Which makes me believe that it was just a very vocal PART of the playerbase that cared about that (how many I don’t know of course, but seeing as DF has seen lower numbers than ‘normal’, I’d say not that many).
When you say something to work towards can you please make an example of that ? Because a good thing they could make people work towards is the new monthly trade posts they should add more items and even some things that have a bit of a grind to obtain certain items
Yes, it is such a good expansion so far. Love the way gearing, world building and story has been improved massively. And ESPECIALLY WPvP being amazing!
Its a fact - at the end of each expac it is regarded as garbage, it happens everytime. After the next expac is over the previous one is looked at more fondly. Biggest example is Wrath at the end everyone hated it now most refer to it as the best ever. WoD is the only one that bucked this trend, even tho most regard it as worst ever people are starting to admit it wasnt that bad. It not that often a vast majority call an expansion bad in the early stages which is where DF is now so its gonna be real bad later on unless the Devs buck up their ideas.
<3 yes Could not agree more blizz have got it wrong in previous expansions so it is about time they got some credit and players will not be disappointed when they come back to the game the lore is strong. And loving how it has got A back to basics style focusing on game play and interesting lore looking forward to this new season coming.
The fact that I actually feel bad for the villains of the story is a breath of fresh air given WoW’s recent writing history. I almost feel like I am fighting for the wrong side.
Raszageth alone is a much more nuanced villain with clear and understandable motivations than the Jailer ever was. I am eager to see the other Incarnates’ personalities fleshed out.
This is thread-ending in its importance. “Nuance” was previously absent from the WoW developers’ dictionary. I almost feel like the story is now growing up alongside the audience.
Really hit the nail on the head there, in regards to why the story is so much more relatable.
It’s the difference in feeling like the we (the player) is watching unavoidable cosmic unrelatable events occur in front of us (BFA + Shadowlands), where we are just passengers “along for the ride”… And EVERYTHING is new lore, that does nothing to make Warcraft fans feel like they recognize the game they fell in love with.
And now in Dragonflight where we are taking part in more down to earth, relatable and recognizable stories, that are more centered around us and the impact we have on the world around us.
“CENTAURS?! I know who they are! And they are back?! And we are now returning to a fantasy themed expansion, that makes me feel like I’m fighting dragons, and helping the small people as a local hero?? AND we are fighting on equal terms with a main villain, who is just as afraid of us, as we are of him???”
… is SO much better than …
“Chosen one, you must defeat Nacrufil The Galactic Devourer, and bring peace to the planet AND the four realms (that we developers JUST came up with for this expansion), which are based in technologically advanced societies, and learn that magic… is in fact just science! (because you all hate Warcraft, and would prefer a Starcraft themed universe right…?).”
I mean come on… Did the story team at Blizz lose a bet to the Starcraft department, and let them design an expansion??
I think the worst crime the developers EVER did to WoW, wasn’t the ending Arthas got… Or any other “plot related events”… It’s the fact that after Shadowlands… All magic is now just “advanced technology”… and it’s canon now…
Canon can be made non canon with a good writer if they hire stephen king for the next expansion im sure he will do a better job then the shadowlands team did and i would be surprised if they still have jobs. However dragonflight is making everything right now so it is all good i think blizz may be going an avengers end game route with nzoth which will be cool. Just hope they dont pile it in to this expansion and do it over the next few years so we get some investment in to the lore.
Hey scopper i would disagree with you on the fact that wow is dying because that is far from true. Most of the players who i have spoken to in game love this expansion and a lot of my friends who left the game have came back to wow and are now playing because of how good this expansion has been. And blizzard are now listening to the players and making things right so it is only up from here.
Some new races would be cool for the next expansion give us something to look forward to. Hope they dont abandon the faction divide because that is part of wows dna.
Taliesin says Dragonflight is dyin’ , he says there is significant drop for all wow youtubers/content creators, whether it is viewercount, subs, donations, and patreon numbers all are down. Oh no.
Let’s not be so pessimistic, I believe people enjoy Dragonflight so much they have no time to watch content creators since they are online 24/7.
Or it is really dyin’ perhaps ;
I would love to see Mecha Kul’tirans to be honest, after success of Mechagnomes, I promise I’ll bring back minimum 2 friends if they add Mecha Kul’tirans. Kul’tirans but with transmog limitations, new race. Whoever was behind Mechagnomes, probably still works at Blizzard? C’mon don’t make us wait any longer.
