first of all we need faster lore bits. the entire campaign i did in like 2 days tops …
i feel really sad for peoples only focusing on story etc, they are starving
about m+
blizzard could do some twist like adding new extra Mythic+ each week that doesnt count to raider io
In a world where people play games for fun, a sound idea.
In WoW, where everybody seems to think that their time is of immense value adn treat the game more as a job, no rating = no participation, unless somebody´s BiS happens to drop in there.
I personally think that´s a wholly asinine way to approach any hobby or pastime, hyperoptimize all the enjoyment and little moments along teh way out of it for the sake pure efficiency, but if people want to continue to be robots after they clock out at work, well, that´s their prerogative
Don’t you think that is self serving? Some might not take 3 months to do it, but others will take longer. We are not all on the same skill level.
The secondary content is there to tide people over. If they find it boring… they can take a break and go play something else. What is the problem with that?
there is no shame in taking a break if you think you have done all that is to offer .
for some people six month is better because they dont rush through content .
That’s why we have nerfs. Some people can clear +10s with ~590 ilvl and the others do it with “max” ilvl. And it really didn’t take long for the nerfs to come.
Now we have people with different skill level all over the place while +12s are basically the wall for the majority of players.
Firstly not everyone moves at the same pace. Some players will rush a season and be done quickly and other will take a more relaxed approach. I don’t think everyone should be forced to rush things.
Secondly I don’t think it’s good to be always pushing. It is good to have some down time to do other things, professions, achievements, play an alt.
Also it’s good to catch your breath before the new season and you’ll be raring to go when it hits.
Thirdly If there are 6 or 8 seasons per expansion won’t players just start skipping seasons as they’re so many.
I’ve already moved into this mindset with open world seasons. I’m going to skip this first one and stick with quest rewards. I might gear up in season 2 if WQs are giving ilvl 600~ gear. Then I might just keep that until Pre-Patch.
There was too much gearing in DF. It never stopped and I just had enough of it.
I honestly stay away from games with season that are 3 months or shorter.
Might be good for those no lifing only 1 game but most people like to play alts, come back late in the season etc, and there is really no need to make everything even more rushed.
The problem WoW has is that the enjoyment of the game, or motivation to play, centers almost entirely around the Seasonal progression journey, be it in PvP or PvE.
That’s contrary to other games where people will just play Fortnite or Overwatch, because they enjoy the moment to moment gameplay, and then the Seasonal stuff is icing on the cake that makes it all a little sweeter.
WoW has for some inexplicable reason sacrificed its core open-ended MMORPG gameplay in favor of a high emphasis on Seasonal gameplay, which does have the consequence of making the game feel extremely pointless once you’ve completed your Seasonal goals.
So in certain other games it’s not a big issue if players rush the Season, because they’ll keep playing anyway. In WoW it seems as if players get incredibly bored once they’re finished with the Season.
Sure, but tell that to Blizzard. They’re the ones who push a very aggressive game model with high urgency to complete daily and weekly objectives and constantly chase upgrades and match your peers. And they’re the ones who push a new Season straight in the wake of an old one, and try to sprinkle a Season with patch updates with FOMO and rewards and power progression and other things that players definitely shouldn’t miss out on.
That ain’t on the players.
The game used to have periods of downtime, especially at the tail end of an expansion, but in Blizzard’s quest to have high player retention and impressive MAU metrics, that’s not the case anymore. Blizzard definitely wants players to play often and regularly, and to partake in all the newest content and push their progression and collections.
I feel like all the optional side content we used to have has become passively acquired from doing M+ etc or weekly chores.
Even professions seem like that (I’m not speaking from experience as I gave up on profession when I saw what they were in DF). I see weekly activities to progress professions and get knowledge or whatever it is you need now.
Back in MOP if you wanted the rep for a faction because they had some recipe or a mount then you’d go farm their dailies for a few weeks and you’d be done.
Back in TBC these were even more optional, I didn’t do Netherwing or Orgrila until years later.
Now you basically do the weekly chores list and you get some rep with everything and eventually you’ll be Renown (whatever is maxe these days, 25?).
For me, the solution isn’t to add more of this seasonal structure but to try and go back to reps / factions being optional side content that players decide if and when they want to do them.
Too much of the game is now gated behind Renown, with little agency over gaining this renown. Just do all your chores and you’ll get Renown and then you can do other things gated by it if you want. I dislike this.
Taking a break is always an option. Come back every month and do content for Trading Post stuff. Explore stuff you haven’t done before, go achievement hunting. The game has loads of things to do, you’re not exactly tied to this expansion by a ball and chain. You just have to look
Not to mention stressful when trying reach time limits on some fomo contents, it takes from the enjoyment if feel that are forced to do something in certain time period. I enjoy longer seasons or no seasons at all. Also not fan of timegating of anything in general, Im also old now but when I started wow as younger I never came to play mmo with the thought that it would be made into something esports or too serious and the like in general as it is an mmo not an moba or shooter where competition is the only point of the games. Im sure many have multiple opinions varying from mine on this but mine is that mmos should be about accessibility and have as many people as possible doing various things in the game so we have that big playerbase in the mmo.
