Yep the megaserver is really well made.I also like the Culling tech.
Agreed. GW2 world is brilliant, everything elseā¦ ehhh. Poor.
GW2 has some great open world elements any mmorpg should look to to gain inspiration, fractals are okay to copy to, now something like the tradeing post is also a great ide to copy(the part with how selling and buying stuff there works)
now looking at wow then the instanced stuff is something you could look towards.
the problem for wow is that implomenting the GW2 open world stuff is going to take a hell lot of work and then you might get close, blizzard would need to hire a totally new dev team just to handle the share amount of work it would take to imploment properly.
now the tradeing post is much easier in comparrison but totally agree that wow should steal the great stuff from other great mmorpgās but then again is that not logical?
I quit GW2 when I saw it asks me to buy individual quests and also my rotation was bound to like 1 key. Felt like autocombat.
But gotta give GW2 its due - the world had some interesting systems to encourage completionism. Everything else was quite bland, I really didnāt enjoy my stay there.
This would be the case in WoW too if they yeeted flying andā¦ deleted a lot of the content. GW2 is comparatively new and small. Nothing comes close to WoWās size. But now, players are either in the skies or in instances. Iād think the point of this genre would be to keep people in the open world butā¦ no. Keeping them in mission lobbies is the path chosen by Blizz. :\ Also, Chromie time isnāt helping with WoD being bis. WoD is bis leveling always, it has THE BEST leveling in the game. Itās so good it killed all other expansions.
with the exception of the Lich King, i think GW2s storylines are better. especially comparing PoF & BfA. BfAs story is just so bad. compare that to the Balthazar and Kralkatorick stories. and the final fights. wow!
i do agree there though. all living world chapters should be free. im a little confused why theyre not tbh.
I get the criticism, but you must see the full picture:
Living World episodes are proper new content that takes time and effort to develop: entirely new maps, voice acting and storylines. It needs to be profitable, especially since they donāt have a subscription like WoW. Itās important to note that theyāre also completely free if you log in when theyāre released, until the next episode comes out (thatās quite a few months, you have plenty of time to get it). Itās a reward for loyal players and I think itās fair.
If you miss out however, it should also be noted that the price of a living world episode is only 200 gems, gems that can be bought for 60 gold, an amount that you can easily acquire in 2 hours by following a farm train in a profitable map. Not too bad Iād say.
If you want Living world for free though, you might really want to come back to the game soon. With their next expansion about to release, theyāre planning to add free Living world weeks where you get past episodes of Living world for free if you log in during the time of the event. For more info, Google āBeginning May 25āLiving World: Complete the Cycleā.
Not really. The world in GW2 is made in the way that most zones are still relevant even the vanilla zones. All the major cities are populated with players and you can see world bosses and events being done in most of the maps.
GW2 did a really good job in preventing content from becoming obsolete in general. Open world in WoW canāt even come close to GW2 open world. GW2 open world is in a league of its own.
GW2 has far superior world content.
But combat is bad, classes in PvP are insanely unbalanced. Sadly, gameplay is bad.
Iāve tried it like 3 times already, quit after 2-3 weeks every time. WoW gameplay is far superior to me.
How is combat bad? Iām genuinely curious. Iād personally say itās far more action-packed and fast-paced than WoWās combat.
Out of curiosity what level were you when you quit? Because the combat gains far more depth at higher levels especially when you have multiple weapons and builds.
this is a great feature imo. the abilities change with the weapon.
wow warrior = it doesnt matter if you use 2h sword or 2h axe, mortal strike looks the same.
GW2 warrior = if you use axe, you do axe abilites like throwing a hatchet or axe wirlwind. (like barbarian at start of Gladiator. use a 2h sword and you do slashing attacks like Conan.
you may only have 5 weapon attacks, but being able to equip 2 sets of weapons, and each weapon having 5 unique abilities means that there are dozens of combos.
unless youre an engineer lol but even then you have some special weapons like grenade belt, acid gun or flame thrower.
I get the game needs to make money, but thatās fomo content, mate. Itās pressuring the players to play or be harassed later down the line, be nickel and dimed later down the line. It is one of the worst monetization systems Iāve seen in a game. I donāt like feeling like Iām being nickel and dimed. The main reason I enjoy WoW is the general lack of āoffersā and discounts. Occasionally thereās the 6 month sub mount and some digital exclusives around blizzcon and some game releases and thatās about it. I used to play f2p online games a lot. The best one in terms of the user experience is Warframe, because it never pressures you into buying things. And it manages to be successful. Thereās no excuse forā¦ quests being behind mtx. The expansions, those I get - itās one big purchase, you get all the content. But this idea that the expansions are the only locked content is kind of a lie.
Weaver Elementalist is probably the most complex spec to play in any videogame ever.
Itās insanely difficult.
You can combine the 4 elements, you get new dual elements based on the past 2 affinities you picked, and you get special abilities for rotating correctly through all 4 elements while in combat. Itās extremely difficult to pull off, especially in PvP.
Not really. WoWās elite PvP sets and M+15 mounts are FOMO because theyāre gone forever afterwards.
As I said, if you miss out on just logging in for 3 seconds in a 4-6 months period after the release of a new episode, all you have to pay for is 60 gold which you can get by playing 2 hours. Again: itās reasonable.
Itās unnecessary nickel and diming. Most monetization systems are reasonable. Itemshop mounts in WoW are reasonable. Thatās not the point. The point is Iām tired of being nickel and dimed and the games I play being a minefield of me spending money. GW2ās initial impression is incredibly bad. I played it for probably 15 hours before deciding to quit it. Itās not a lot for an MMO, but if a game pushes me away in 15 hours, then thatās about enough of my life taken from me.
The world systems in GW2 are good, I really enjoyed completing the first 1 or 2 maps. The systems they had did encourage me to explore and to get everything done. Butā¦ GW2 itself it felt like I was being hassled. And thatās why I quit free games altogether. I play gacha games on mobile and they do not hassle me to pay. At all. Itās possible. Thereās no excuse for a game to have GW2ās monetization. Itās also sad players tolerate it. Shows their outrage about monetization systems is completely emotional and not grounded in some sort of principle.
It is.
The principle is: if the thing that is offered for real life money can also be acquired by playing the game for a short amount of time, then so be it.
2 hours of doing what youād be doing anyway (playing the game) isnāt a huge ask.
M+ were taken straight from nasty Diablo 3ās greater riftsā¦ the wow devs said they asked for advice from D3 designers (yikes).
Fractals are different, because you donāt do it for the gear, itās for the challenge. But itās extremely grindy to get the correct resistance upgrades to keep up and ultimately as M+, boring. Last I played it didnāt got many updates just like their failed raids
What they copied is the nodes not depleted after a player uses them or mob sharing when attacked by another player first.
aye, i just meant engineer uses the least weapons ( rifle, pistol, shield & hammer).
i dont know what im doing with elementalist. i just press whatevers not on cd lol the spells look great though.
Please steal the crafting system and the legendary cosmetics so I have something to sink money and time into.
The mounts are great too btw.
GW2 has the most fair monetisation and business model in the genre. You can literally just convert the in-game gold to gems and unlock the episodes without paying a dime. This is such a non-issue.
Just hire OP as a game designer already, he comes up with good ideas.
