Niche bad luck? The problem is so rampant that it was brought up in the launch interview with Ion. I just downed 5 bosses and got literally nothing for it - in fact it cost me gold for no reward. It’s like going to a Casino at this point but at least walking into a Casino you already know they’re out to rip you off.
Also, please stop marginalising things by calling them “niche” when you don’t have the statistics to back it up.
Edit: It’s the same thing over on the US forums if you bothered to check but I’m certain that you haven’t or you wouldn’t be spouting about it being a niche problem.
Sure, a lot of people is complaining because they got spoiled with loot shower prior to SL but that doesn’t mean that current gear scarcity is bad 
It’s just means that people are prone to complaining and we all know that people do it for various reasons including being lazy and/or entitled.
I’m pretty sure they’re complaining because they’re not able to progress in a game that they’re paying to play. Maybe start reading what people write instead of doing a whiney voiceover with your inner monologue…
It’s literally impossible to NOT progress unless you stop playing, do absolute minimum content, or even worse play just one type of content on absolute minimum 
12 dungeons and 5 raid bosses with 1 drop which wasn’t an upgrade because I had a socket in the item I would have replaced

As far as I can see people who complain about drop are the same who use one bad week example as if it was the norm when it’s not. Come back when you gonna have 1 drop a few weeks in a row because only then we can start to make an argument about a systemic problem
Besides raid/dungeon drops are not the only sources of loot so don’t pretend like that’s all there is and you can’t progress
Maybe you have not noticed but.
All of us ( how ever many millions of players we are ) pay tyhe game so Ion can balance it for the 60 players in to top guilds.
We get less drops because top guilds do split runs. Whne they do this split runs they kill the mythic bosses for the first week. Ion didnt want his boss to die in the first week so all the ( lets say 30 million ) players must have bad experience because of the guilds that rush for World First.
It is crazy how 2 weeks in a row i have 9 drops from my valut but not a single weapon. And all top guilds got weapons from their vaults, just so they can compete for world first.
We pay so the top guilds can have fun.
50% of the raid development is for mythic dificulty that none of us ( almost ) ever sees.
All our money go for content none of us ever sees.
They need us in game more than we need this game tho …

As I play a Darnassian Centipede with 60 legs and 40 arms I quite like getting boots and bracers from every other drop 
It’s not so much about the frequency of loot drops more about the lack of control over what actually does drop. The vault isn’t going to help, all it will do is offer you 3 or 4 items, none of which is an upgrade and so you are left frustrated for another week.
A bit like in BfA when a low level M+ gave titanforged boots in the weekly chest, the following week in a higher M+ the same boots, but warforged, the following week? a M10+ and…the exact same pair of boots, 3 weeks in a row. THAT’S what p*sses people off

It’s been four weeks! I was doing mythic dungeons in the first week and I’m not even 10 item levels above M0 yet
You have NO CLUE what you’re talking about yet here you are pretending that everything is fine when there is CLEARLY a problem.

Its the same for everyone. Be grateful you are an op class that can 2 button your way to Elite pvp loot and get 233 weapons.
I went the whole of season 4 without a main hand dropping from anything and I was spamming M+ daily so I can relate.
There is nothing wrong with it people just whine because they get less than they were getting before
Anyone can get 200+ilvl by doing the minimum but somehow that’s not enough even tho 200+ is HC territory which most people don’t even do.

That shouldnt even be a thing. HCC range should start higher.

I was doing various content on the minimum and I’m geared for Normal raid and the best thing is that I didn’t even supplement myself with ez 200+ conquest gear.
If you bump HC ilvl then you need to adjust lower content ilvl so it wont change anything becasue people will still get there by doing somehwat minimum effort.
