Your characters name - What does it mean?

Many of my characters are anagrams of my initials & surname… or based around the first four letters of this name; I’m not RP-enough to want or need meanings to my character names.

I have absolutely no idea.

Same name as a level 11 elite bogbeast that use to inhabit Teldrassil, It required a group to kill so people would often say in general or trade LFG Oakenscowl to which i would pop into the chat saying stuff like “leave me alone” or “bring it you elf sissy’s” sad his elite status was removed but as soon as classic rolled out i started doing it again.

Well, Dottie, cos I DoT. I do use other names, it just depends on what is available. I like Frombie for a rogue. Otherwise I just stick two or three random syllables together.

My name was inspired by the Ogres in game. They are always calling us puny.

Gráinne is an Irish female name, whose first well-known occurrence was in ancient folklore.

However, I picked it thinking of

  1. Gráinne Ní Mháille - a real historical figure, a fierce woman of the sixteenth century, who even as a child had a determination for adventure. Local folklore had it that as a young girl, she wanted to go on a trading expedition to Spain with her father. Upon being told she couldn’t because her long hair would catch in the ship’s ropes, she cut off most of her hair to embarrass her father into taking her. This earned her the nickname “Gráinne Mhaol” (Bald Gráinne).

and

  1. A long ago friend from college who was simply the nicest and most patient human being I ever met.

I wanted my character to combine something from both of these.

Gekko is a dishonourable anime character so is my WoW Warrior. If I see a low level player on open world I kill them, if I see someone trying to kill a rare in Maw or Korthia I kill them and steal the rare as well then /laugh at their corpse to complete the masterpiece.

Gekko in anime has dark wings, my WoW character also has dark wings. I turn these clown fairy wings (Sprite Darter) to Black-Purple via a toy, otherwise I wouldn’t use them with their original colours. Basically I try to make my character(s) similar to their inspirations with some little changes, for example my Warrior uses one of the biggest swords ingame while anime character has a normal size sword.

I generally use Japanese origin nicknames.

Bagobones = Bag ‘o’ Bones.

In life, Bagobones was a bard and entertainer, as well as a bandit. And the nickname name in life was Bag ‘o’ Tricks due to the witty and sometimes sly nature of my character’s personality.
After being raised from the dead, Tricks was swapped out for Bones…

… or something like that. 🤷

Akame, shingeki, Mikasa, Yumi

The list goes on and on

Lovely!
Also have most of my elven names from Quenya/Sindarin + a suffix which turns the “thing” into the description of a person.

Achar-in (my DH) is “vengeance”+male suffix
Levain-dil (my hunter) means “friend of animals”
Saew-ron (my rogue) translates to “poison”+male suffix
Naeth-ir means “suffering/grief”+suffix
Luth-ir (my priest) means “Spell”+suffix
Orthor-in (my monk) translates a little more freely composed into “self-disciplin” or “the one who controls himself”
Thinna-dis (my warlock) is “dawn (in the evening)”+female suffix

For other characters I’ve also done similar things with words from hebrew.
For others I was a little more lazy and was just looking for a “fitting” name with the help of the FantasyNameGenerator for the WoW races, so no actual meaning there.

Going by the assumption that my name is actually only Kief and not Kieftilt, it means absolutely nothing. It’s just something I made up when I was a teenager and it’s stuck with me since.

The story about when it came to be though was that back in Wrath of the Lich King I was 14 years old, and when I made this paladin as an alt, there was a guy standing around in Dalaran who had a really high gearscore called Ceyif who I thought was really cool - as all normal kids fanboy over someone with a dark red gearscore of over 6.2k.

From that day on, I made up my own name inspired by that name, and that became Kief (so basically the same pronunciation, just different), and it became my gamertag everywhere since I hadn’t really decided on a “this is my gaming name” yet by that point.

The addition of tilt to Kief just came from the name being taken on server transfers and instead of using some form of off-alphabet letter to circumvent it I just added something else, fittingly the feeling I got from the name I made up as a teenager being stolen from under my nose.
