Best way to generate 'Threat'?

Not in patch 1.12.

Edit: I mean, it may give me a headache to heal but I’m pretty sure it’s doable.

Well come back to me when you kill ragnaros with a 2H as a tank

in the next 2 weeks btw.

That’s not even the boss that scares me with a 2H tank. He is an elemental damage boss so 1H/Shield means nothing compared to a 2H weapon in that regard anyway.

The real worry is Golemagg. He’ll likely have to use a 1H and shield for that.

All bwl geared tanks will respec fury for tanking. Exceptions are only a couple of nax bosses

What? You spend the majority of your time in dungeons dude. You raid once a week for 90-120mins.

I said rag because that’s the end of the raid.

Find me 40 competent players and I’d have MC down within an hour at level 58 with everyone in greens, 2H tank or not…

Failing that, yes, it might be a 1H + shield job. Not going to lie that it’s a tall order with 2019 quality dps.

The problem isn’t you, the problem lies with DPS who are unable to adapt. The amount of DPS they are allowed to put out is directly proportional to the amount of a threat a tank is CAPABLE of putting out.

If they’re going above that, they’re at fault, not you.

Arms > Fury in pre-raid gear.

The least you can do is offer sound advice if you’re going to tell someone to drop their defenses anyway.

well just consider that I’ve done it 4 times fully already (as a tank)

I had to 5 man it on a p.server over and over again for months on end all because one of the tanks REALLY wanted a binding from Garr.

Most painful experience of my life. He didn’t get the binding in the end, either. Complete waste of time.

Edit: (Oh and that’s with the bosses retuned to be made more difficult before anyone cries about it not being classic mc).

Same here, 15-manned garr on cd because mt needed the binding. I used to tank all the adds with force reactive disc

Dps does not need to wait for you to generate aggro
Been raiding in a good guild with a top tier tank. Dps go absolutly ham from the start with full wbuffs and flasks and they dont ever overaggro

I think for the sake of moving forward, let’s forget P-servers, it’s a slightly different experience for various reasons. If we use classic as the example - as we are playing classic.

I’m just trying to figure out what the best way forward is as ultimately the end goal is to raid - I don’t know if I will be a tank as my guild is already clearing content. But if I was asked to tank, the knowledge is helpful.

“True” taunts such as Taunt equalize your threat with the target’s current target AND THEN force the target to attack you for their duration.

“Faux” taunts such as Mocking Blow and Challenging Shout only force the target to attack you for their duration. Mocking Blow also has a small threat component to it.

It takes 130% of threat for someone not in melee range to aggro, and 110% of threat for someone in melee range.

If a mage has 1,300 threat at the time they aggro, this means you had 1,000 threat and your taunt would bring you to 1,300 threat, pushing the same mage’s 130% threshold to 1,690. If at the end of Taunt, the mage has >130% of your current threat, you will lose aggro.

This is the simplest & best way I can explain taunt in WoW.

@ OP

approximate, modifier-independent, damage-independent, threat values for all major warrior tanking abilities:

  • Revenge: 315 + threat from damage + 25 threat on stun proc
  • Sunder Armor: 261
  • Shield Slam: 250 + threat from damage
  • Shield Bash: 180 + threat from damage
  • Heroic Strike: 145 + threat from damage
  • Thunder Clap: 130 per mob hit + threat from damage
  • Disarm: 104
  • Battle Shout: 55 per player receiving buff
  • Demoralizing Shout: 43 per mob receiving debuff

https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/bif380/a_warriors_guide_to_threat_aggro_and_tanking/

It will be exactly the same for all who played there, just a bit more alttabs and afks.

Just to clarify: that means threat from damage + threat from rage gained (1 rage per 30 dmg)

P servers are known for variants in numbers, im just focusing on classic as it is currently

If you have a priest healing you, ask them not to shield you unless it’s a matter of life or death as it prevents rage generation… and no rage = no threat

I also happened to play on private servers. All to their own opinions I suppose.

I’ve found that protection specialization has best talents for threat. Use shield slam, revenge and sunder armor.
Type and speed of weapon do not matter. Only DPS matters. More DPS more rage. That’s all.
