This is a more divisive topic indeed, but I mean the forum attitude in general. It’s definitely leaning in the direction of “always put others’ needs before you”, which is all fine and dandy, until you start calling people on the other side of the argument trash (literally).
Since when this “Need on any valuable BOE” became a thing?
I don’t remember it being a thing, and luckily it hasn’t been a thing in any groups I’ve been, even when faced with drops worth 500g+ literally everyone has shown common sense and needed on what they wanted to equip and greeded on what they wanted to sell.
To me it’s clear it’s just scummy people trying to justify their scummy inclinations by claiming it’s somehow standard etiquette.
Anyone rolling need on an item they don’t plan to equip is getting on my ninja list.
For what it’s worth, many seem to consider it insurance against ninjas rather than pure capitalism, with an expectation that you can work something out after the fact.
I have to admit I tend to let others roll first in case I run into one of these Need-on-anything-and-everything people, but unless it’s in response to to one of these situations there’s really no excuse for rolling Need with the intent of selling the item when that’s precisely what Greed is intended for.
Understood. That’s the crux of your argument.
I don’t agree. If you don’t help anyone, no one will help you, so you’ll be worse in the long run. Morals (using your expression) and ethics exist because they are beneficial, otherwise we would not use them.
I never said don’t help anyone. I said, compare things like this with a proper judgement.
In my case, I don’t run a Mage, so I wouldn’t need on Freezing Band with my Hunter. I would still need for Krol Blade, since I really need it on my Rogue. Different players will run into different questionable scenarios.
In my experience in classic (most of my instance runs are PUGs), everyone is using a “Need only to equip” policy. Haven’t seen anyone needing on a blue BoE that he could not wear immediately, or before asking if someone needed it as an upgrade.
Only thing I saw (and all the party was like wtf?) was a rogue needing on boxes “to increase his unlock level”.
One of the dumbest things I have ever read. Maybe your raid leader should sell you all the Loot you actually need next time too for 500 gold a pop. You like that?
I don’t need any BoE loot. Besides, I’m missing you point except for the fact you’re mad at me for some reason.
Isn’t that just holding the item hostage until you get a favourable outcome?
Not mad. You just made a somewhat dumb statement. When it drops, get it to person who needs it. It’s simple.
Don’t be greedy.
I could make a joke about hunter here since you play one. But I don’t.
Fyi, I’m not down with that either.
But you know how annoying it is to level up
Was it dumb or did you simply not bother to think about it?
If a BoE item drops, everyone needs it equally. Why would you think otherwise?
Everyone is doing that dungeon, if a 450g item drops everyone should have a go. Just because its really good for that rogue doesn’t mean its his alone.
that 450g might help another class buy his bis item from ah.
I am amazed and dumbfounded by the people in this thread expecting INCREDIBLE charity from strangers and actually have the gall to call them ninjas and blacklist them if they do not willingy partake in such “giveaway”. It’s insane.
Let’s take the OP example. The Krol Blade that just dropped is NOT a BoP item you need or not need. Think of it as a small sack item with description “300-400g inside, openable at closest auction NPC”. OF COURSE everyone needs on it. The rogue, should (s)he win, has an added convenience of immediately BUYING a Krol Blade item (if he needs such) by equipping it instead of selling it on AH. That’s it, he just BOUGHT a Krol Blade fron AH in the middle of the dungeon. That’s all there is to it.
Once again, I have to stress, the audacity of people who expect me to just pass that bag with 300-400g in it to a rogue just because he has an option to buy Krol Blade right then and there just stops me in my tracks. Just HOW entitled do you have to be to ask such of a person. Jesus Christ, some people.
Indeed Nicolay.
That’s not how ethics work.
You can make the same argument about literally any item that can be vendored or posted to AH.
See that Ironfoe? Think of it as a sack of gold with 6g inside. Of course everyone needs 6g. Should the warrior win it, he can just smack people upside the head with that sack of gold.
That is one weak strawman argument there.
BoE’s value is determined by supply and demand. BoP vendor value has zero relationship to its “worth”.
You can’t buy that BoP with 6g from anywhere, it is not BoE -> gold -> BoE…it has to drop for you. it is not interchangeable and comparable in any way at all.
