[H-RP][Guild]Red Venturers: Redventure itself is worthwhile

The Red Venturers: A primer (of sorts).

Our new thread can be found here: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/pcu-h-rp-guild-red-venturers-the-call-to-redventure/95910

Nobody’s exactly sure when the Red Venturers started. To some, the Red Venturers fall outside their sphere of significance - they’d pay the Red Venturers no more mind than one would the fine print on a goblin contract (to the reader’s detriment). Others who do know of the Red Venturers, and indeed those within the ranks, know that it started with two trolls, deeply patriotic towards the Horde, who had found themselves free from rank and file, sans a reliable income source.

For a time, they did what anyone with a finite amount of income and a sudden freedom from responsibility does - nothing. Nothing of consequence, nothing productive, and nothing noteworthy. But as the time marched on, the pinhole in their lives had grown into a yawning chasm of directionless apathy. It was time to change that.

They took to the world, offering a hand up to those who needed it the most, and a roof over the heads of the oddities, the eccentrics, and the kooks. No job was too small, no task too menial, and no endeavour too bizarre, provided it served the purpose of protecting the breadbaskets and furthest flung outposts of the Horde.

Managed by the aloof behind-the-scenes leadership of Lakvanoy Clawtotem, a tauren Death Knight with a will to do good almost as strong as her uncongenial attitude (don’t worry, she has a publicist working on it), the Red Venturers strive to be a force of good for the Horde in a world that barely cares to acknowledge them.
They might never be centre-stage under the spotlight, but hey, someone has to draw the curtains and play the triangle, right?

Who are the Red Venturers?

In Character
The Red Venturers are proud, loyal, and just a bit of a grab bag of freaks and geeks. We’ve got quixotic Death Knights, environmentally-conscious goblins, aspiring chef Demon Hunters, and… Whatever Awqe is this week. But above all, it’s a group who are tightly bound together through their love of the Horde, their desire for peace, and understanding of what it means to not quite fit in elsewhere.

Out Of Character
Hello, we’re back after our old thread got locked due to inactivity - moving house is great, eh?!

The Red Venturers is (another) adventurer-style RP guild, with an undercurrent of mercenary activity, albeit of a more kind-hearted nature than usual.

As an RP guild we embrace how WoW presents itself as a world and as a setting, so we’re not afraid to embrace the somewhat silly undertone running through the World of Warcraft. This mix of the serious and the light-hearted is something we all enjoy, so we’re able to find the comical side to our RP and our characters as much as we appreciate the dramatic, the harrowing or the tear-jerking.

Behind-the-scenes of it all, we’re a small circle of like-minded players and pals, who approach both RP and PvE with a laidback, casual mindset; a focus on enjoying ourselves, rather than aiming to impress others.

We understand that life ramps up and slows down with very little notice, and like the idea of a sensible bedtime because of work tomorrow. We take the game at our own, meandering pace.

What You Should Know

Activity
We’re best summed up as a casual RP guild. Typically, we tend to have members who are adults with a bunch of outside responsibilities and so their free time for WoW can be limited. The guild is aimed primarily towards adults who appreciate or need a guild with a slightly slower pace, less demands, but can still be relied on for a good chat, eager RPers, and awkward floundering attempts at PvE/PvP.

We like to attempt a mix of spontaneous RP, planned guild events, and attendance to out-of-guild activities and events. So while you might see us mucking in with the latest war campaign or server event, you’re just as likely to find us assisting a “famous” goblin ghost-hunter shooting their latest documentary in the Ghostlands, or putting down a runaway zombified devilsaur in Tirisfal.

Because of our responsibilities, those looking for a guild with designs for daily, multi-hour RP sessions or campaigns of breathtaking scale and length might find a better fit elsewhere - but you’re still welcome to drop by and try some of Awqe’s famous deep-fried Gnomefingers (Don’t worry, it’s just a name… Or so he says).

Ranking
The Red Venturers does not have an in depth ranking system. In a small adventurers band such as this, ranks and stations can become stifling.

All Venturers “answer” to Watrus and Khaltarr, who in turn answer to Lakvanoy. Beyond that everyone is considered equally as worthless as each other, regardless of age, time spent with the group, or your former status as class officer with Method during 2008-2009.
What this does mean, is that all ideas and suggestions are given equal merit and attention, to foster an atmosphere more akin to a family gang than a rigid squad structure.

Contact
We’re saddos who are usually online weekday evenings, and weekends too. You can usually hit up Watrus, Khaltarr, or do a search for Red Venturers if you want to have a chat with us for more details. We’ll try to have a brief IC meeting before any fully IC recruitment, though you may get a guild invite ahead of time to keep things smooth.

Thanks to Khaltarr for writing this up for us!
To avoid confusion, while he is my co-lead, it’s me who is the GL proper!

If you’re wondering why we have a new thread after quite recently making one; we had to find a new home, and wern’t able to bump the old one before the 30-day close.
Evicted from our flat, and our thread. A sad 2019.

It hadn’t been the best of plans, that was for certain, but a week or so sailing the Great Sea on a dilapidated raft had certainly given Khaltarr plenty to think about. First of all, he knew that his mate was notorious for occupying as much space as she possibly could while sleeping, and slept fitfully, which he had learnt that this did not translate well to sleeping on a narrow raft. Secondly, that speared seagull was actually passable cuisine while sailing, if you had no fortitude for fish, and third?

Well, third was what had gotten them into this fine mess in the first place. Adventure they had said! The promise of gold! Treasure! Azerite! It had been too much for them to pass up at the time, and exactly what had gotten them into trouble. For sailing out with an unfamiliar goblin (and indeed, why didn’t they sail out with more than just three?) into unknown waters had proven to be their undoing. They had landed upon the island, and the hunt had begun in earnest. Yet disaster! Trouble! They were set upon by a vicious pack of Alliance gnomes, their most cunning and brutal assassins that the two trolls (minus their cowardly goblin, who had fled the island with a sack of doubloons in an inner tube) were overwhelmed by.

Try as they might, the gnomes had them in their grasp.

Kept as trophies aboard their ship as they sailed from island to island, the two trolls watched the gnomes plunder more and more gold, and more and more treasure, and more and more Azerite. Slowly but surely, their diminutive captors had grown more cocksure, swaggering around their vessel bejewelled and wearing enough gold to make even a dragon envious. That was when the trolls put their plan to work. Seditious words, half-truths and outright unbelievably tall tales, much taller than their jailors, turned gnome upon gnome. They had grown arrogant, and it had been their downfall. Gnome turned against Gnome, unleashing their diminutive fury against one another. There was magic. There were shots fired. Khaltarr was sure he heard the strangled squawk of mechanical chickens before the explosions tore their vessel asunder, leaving little more than driftwood on the surface.

And now here were Watrus and Khaltarr, sailing towards Zandalar with naught but the clothes on their backs, their equipment, and faithful Vondila. But they were approaching friendly lands, and Khaltarr breathed a sigh of relief. A hot meal awaited them. Fresh trappings. Soft furs to sleep upon. As he looked down at his sleeping mate, cuddling her hyena for comfort, he reflected on how his time with the Venturers had been such a long and strange journey. They had put down rampaging undead devilsaurs. They had acted as a bulwark to a goblin investigating the paranormal of the Ghostlands. They had faced down witches in pitch-black forests, and he was quite certain they’d mended a fence or two along the way. Work was work, and the Venturers would take any job, no matter how humble, to keep the Horde family going just a little more.

Then Watrus turned in her sleep and booted him off the raft.

We had fun at the Grimtotem event in Stonetalon, plan on popping in now and then at the Roaming Hub, and are even signed up for the Theatres of War event running mid-May.
Wow. Lots of opportunities for us to say hi to you, and you to say hi to us!

Hey hey! Just a quick heads up to say we’ll be with the Roaming Hub in Desolace for a while. Everyone’s been super polite and welcoming (try the fish!) so come and say hi if you fancy. Maybe Awqe will cook you up some of his famous dig rat stew, now with extra tails.

Pretty busy week for Red Venturers!
Early in the week a few of us were in attendance of some events hosted by the Roaming Hub, in Desolace! Lending their aid, they like to think they were part of the successes seen there.

You might have seen a couple of us at the Noblegarden Festival on Quel’Danas this Thursday, where one of our DHs sadly caused a little bit of embarrassment to himself, but we swiftly managed to get that sorted. Hopefully the Blood Elves won’t recall that little incident. Most awkward.

The weekend saw some of us escort a peculiar artefact through Stranglethorn on Saturday. Unplanned, but not unwelcome, was the brief run in with members of the Hand of Zul. Intimidating, and also just a little bit loathesome, they really shook things up in a way that had us hooting in g-chat.
A brief return for members of Red Venturers (and a guest) to Desolace for some of its herbalists and alchemists to explore the soil and plantlife around Karnum’s Glade, lead to the discovery of a peculiar fungus and a resolution to a problem by way of fire, fire and more fire.
Sorry about that. We’re sure it’ll be alright.

Is this usual?
This is and isn’t. We’re always trying to engage with different events and communities on the realm, and balance it with our own internal goings on.
This week was especially filled, but we mean it when we say it’s light-hearted, it’s casual and it’s relaxed. So come along! See the world. Burn some basilisk.

Big thanks to anyone who bumped into, and subsequently humoured us during the Ports in a Storm war theatre. Muzhao and Venoma came back battered, bruised, but having slaked their thirst for a bit of Alliance bashing and protecting the home front. Even got shiny medals to show for it. Huzzah!

We’re currently hanging out in the jungle for a bit as part of the roaming hub. Will there be shenanigans? Most definitely. Should you come give us a prod and warble? Absolutely.

We got a couple things going on right now.
Khaltarr is currently helming a guild storyline that is looking to be something quite special.
Do you like the void? Do you like curses? Do you like weird artifacts in the form of boxes no one can open? This is a great way to get a new character involved, as just about anyone could hold potential answers to this mystery!

Kicking this back up here as we’ve been hanging out with those fine upstanding folks from the PCU recently. We’re looking forward to working with them - exciting new times!

As always, our doors are open to those seeking adventure, and to protect the more vulnerable people and places of the Horde. For Redventure!
