Gold is part of the game, playing economy and AH is part of the game.
If we ignore GDKP entirely, it doesn’t change the fact that this is a massive issue which really harms ERA servers. Your GDKP is currently banned on the new realms, and the inflationary pressure is already worse on anniversary than it was on SoD or ERA.
For those who are saying that these posts are AI (lol), it is quite clear from the responses that the average wow player does not care about the economic side of the game. Yet at the same time they supposedly care about RMT? They would rather treat symptoms than address causes.
GDKP ban did not solve any problems, if anything it just means that gold is rarely redistributes across the economy as often.
It makes no difference to me, I have things to do, I am level 21 currently and I might not hit 60 until April/May at my rate of play, so I suspect I won’t even see end game on anniversary. However I suspect when the majority are 60 and inflation is out of control we will see plenty of forum posts suddenly caring about this issue.
Yes gold is part of the game, but not to the extreme extend that you make it. Gladly GDKP’S are banned, I would hope that bots would also be totally banned. But at least one part of the problem have been solved.
GDKP ban solved a problem, which was that it was hurting the social structure in game. And in your case, if you do not expect to see any end game than why is this such an important topic for you? Or is it that you hoped you could easily gear up by throwing some gold at it once you hit lvl 60?
Gold is a part of the game, but not to the extreme extent you make it
I do not make it extreme, Blizzard make it extreme by not taking any action against hyper inflation of gold caused directly by bots on every new server release
GDKP ban solved one part of the problem
Which is what ? There is no fundamental issue with GDKP as a loot system
GDKP hurt the social structure in the game
By incentivising sweats to run old content for gold and giving an alternative way for casual players to gear up/catch up?
Why is this an important topic for you if you won’t hit max level anytime soon ?
GDKP in and of itself is not a particularly important topic for me, but I think the wow economy and how it has functioned on their new releases is interesting. I work in a financial environment and so I’m naturally going to find this interesting.
you want to spend some gold and gear up
If it was an option, I would yes. If I am playing the AH as I slowly level and (boosted ofc by the upward rapid inflation,) have a pot of gold at max, I would rather continue to spend my game time wisely by joining GDKP instead of the alternatives as it would be easier for me. On Fresh I don’t plan to raid at all, if GDKP was in place I might, but as it is not I will just farm PvP gear. It is quite easy to make money in wow due to the inflation if you’re in at the start, simply buy items which always have an inflated gold value when they are 1 or 2g at the start of fresh and hold it in bank until said item is going for 40x it’s value and then sell. Have enough of this and you will not have problems with gold.
The principle of GDKP is fine as long as the economy is fine
Well than we agree on the bot problem and I also agree that this hurts the economy. But we can also agree to disagree on the GDKP problem.
Overall, I do not think GDKP has a place in an MMORPG like World of Warcraft. If you want gear, then just either join a guild, a community or a Pug. Just throwing gold at it, it just hurts the social structures of the game. Also the problems of RMT take part in this, so it has more factors why I am at least happy that GDKP’s are banned.
Glad to see you are still playing tho, hope you have a fun time leveling and pvping!
I really feel like they will leave vanilla as you say as ‘pure’.
They won’t ban any of the BOTs and inflation will hit SoD levels.
Then in TBC a bluepost will come saying it failed and then add WoW token and GDKP back so they can make money from it.
If Blizzard wanted money they would just add a GDKP server with the WoW Token to compete with the BOTs. So Blizzard makes the money on the very few that actually can afford to swipe. Most of us are people with familys and GFs. I can barely afford my life never mind swipping £100s on a game to get gear.
I played GDKP and enjoyed it as a non-swiper. Took me 3 phases but I played and bidded smart and got loads of gold. Most people are Non-swipers I would say but if you can’t stop people buying gold from BOTs why doesn’t Blizzard kill the competition and make these people buy it from them?
I also bet you people who are saying you are the purists and are anti-GDKP are the ones who payed for the TBC boost and mount and did the same in WoTLK?
Anyway, I say just make a 2 server solution, GDKP and Non-GDKP and let the Community decide? This is only the logical solution to this problem. Make the Token from day 1 on the GDKP so Blizzard makes a load of £ from the whales who swipe and make money from classic to profit and spend money further developing it. Also you guys will be on the Non-GDKP server and will never come across it as it’ll be banned on that server.
This means Blizzard, the Non-GDKP players and the GDKP players win. Nobody loses, everyone gets what they want and Blizzard gets a lot of money?
GDKP kept people raiding for gold, and it allowed new characters to get invited to raids and gear up quickly for the cost of gold. The problem is this facilitates gold spending on a massive scale, and I don’t think that is good for the game at all.
We will see how it pans out, but I think the GDKP ban is a good thing. I ran GDKP at the end of TBCC and during the first half of WOTLKC too, I’ve experienced it enough to understand. To me it was a mercenary experience, and completely outside the spirit of the game, that’s why I left my GDKP guild/community and joined a loot council guild in Ulduar. I still play with those guys today on Classic and Retail.
When the demand for gold is high, it creates cheating , aka botting to farm MORE gold, for credit card warriors and so it produces inflation, higher prices, etc.
You are right here. Read my above point …
Except that from all 10 “buyers” who has 800g, at least half got their money with credit card. Another 3 got their gold by farming, and the remaining 2 its…unknown income. Might be from farming or …from other GDKP runs which he made with his guild. Unlikely …
And you are telling me the pot wasn’t big enough for you to make gold and buy some stuff cheaper in the next few weeks?
In Firelands I have bought nothing for the first 2 weeks. Now the items go for 1/4 of the price and i have loads of golds from the people who bid stupid amounts at the start.
I think you just got finessed by yourself. Its gold positive if you bid smartly.
And where did the people who bid stupid amounts get their gold from? most likley not just from farming or GDKP but from buying gold, even if they didnt buy gold them selves and they got the gold from GDKP it comes from a gold buyer just removed a few steps from the guy who actually spent money on gold.
Lemme ask you this… How does GDKP distribute gold at the beginning? What would I need if I say moved my current self (mixed set of Normal Raid Pieces and some leftovers Heroic Dungs stuff I haven’t managed to upgrade due to my schedule preventing proper raiding) to even get accepted into one without being expected to bid and still be approved for pot’s share? How would that apply to a fresh character geared through heroics and Inferno?
The people with crazy amounts got the gold from BOTs rather than farming most likely.
The BOTs are still here and in every server so the gold will get inflated either way with or without GDKP.
The war should be on BOTs but GDKP is a convenient distraction for most people to believe they are doing something about this when they are not.
I bet most people who get 1k gold to buy expert riding probably did some shady stuff to get it. Same with people who have 100s of consumes in Classic. I’m sure they weren’t farming it, the same as in SoD.
I admit it… i did some shady stuff to get my 1k … i told my Raidlead i need it for Black Lotus Deathmatch. Worked out fine.
I did farm my consumes myself tho…
But i was always a bit of a broke dude in the game… giving consumes out for free to my raidmembers who wouldnt care to farm was always a bit of a problem for me… but heeeey i am a nice guy and i wanna help…
Resulting in: I Would Neeeeeeeever ever get any item in a GDKP.
Thank god you can run older Content with dedicated players no matter which Phase it is
Players in anniversary allready have pockets full of bot gold and do not know what to do with it, since GDKPs are banned. Sure there would be some world drop BoEs on AH but nothing else to spend on. Soon enought they would begin RMT runs managed in their discords or pre bid with gold on gray items in AH.
