Remove deserter from being kicked in LFG

This should be self explanatory. Being kicked from LFG and then being hit with the deserter buff is just vile, specially when it was random, and for no reason or a group of friends trolling and kicking people.

Getting kicked is one thing and doesnt matter, but the fact that you are punished with 30 minutes to not que is the issue. Deserter as in the name, is intended for people who desert, not those who get kicked.

Sure if you que up with friends, you can abuse this to get out of a dungeon early(which essentially doesn’t matter anymore). But that is just scraping the bottom. The issue itself is that the kick system is abused and people get punished for it.

It’s been brought up countless of times, and i don’t see any logical point in it being there. It’s things like this that infuriates people and make them quit the game, because they are indirectly punished by the game.

What an original thought.

Can’t believe there not already a million threads about it.

And yet they havnt made any changes. Just bringing attention to the deserter buff, in hopes they will remove it as a penalty when you get kicked.

Incorrect, due popular feedback it was recently changed:

The deserter debuff is for leaving any queued PVE content early. Kicking, leaving, disconnecting, doesn’t matter which.

This has also been recently mentioned at the US CS forums here:

They won’t remove it unless another system takes its place.

Remember there was a reason it was put in to begin with

It solves a bigger problem: without some sort of punishment then people would re-queue until they get the one they prefer.

I mean, if everyone has the same opinion about a subject then it’s pretty obvious that the opinion has meaning, anyone with an IQ above room temperature would’ve figured that out by now.

I actually got kicked within two minutes of joining a dungeon run. As far as I remember this was my first time being kicked in all my time playing wow and I had no idea I would get a debuff for it. I just sat there with a surprised face contemplating what just happened.

So we get these XP buffs now and even with a good Tank and healer we sometimes die cause of someone doing something crazy and everyone loses the buffs right.

Anyway, so I join a run, right at the start when everyone joins, a player starts spamming the chat with some macro. The tank leaves, maybe becase he sensed danger or had more experience. So now we are waiting for a new tank to join. The healer is jumping around as if the 30 second wait is already too much to handle. Suddenly runs off alone and attacks some mobs somewhere and almost dies.

One of them asks if anyone has a Tank friend who can join and help, everyone says no.
So I am thinking to myself, what is the big deal, just wait a few minutes for another tank to join. Then they start running around as if they are stressed out because of waiting. Two of them attacks another group of mobs, meanwhile I am thinking to myself “I hope they don’t do anything that gets us killed, cause I don’t want to lose the XP bonus buffs again”. So I am waiting for a new tank to join, 20 seconds later suddenly I am kicked without anyone ever saying anything.

This whole thing happened within two minutes of joining the run.

Oh and another thing, while leveling I saw some people just randomly wanting to kick others in the group and the kick always went through. I would ask why they kicked that player and get answers like “I don’t even know”. So everyone just presses the yes button when that thing comes up it seems and they don’t even think about it.

But then again, there was one occasion where this one player was trying to ruin everything on purpose and pulling everything in sight to get everyone killed and laughing about it while being very rude. Then they kicked him and that was deserved cause that player was griefing on purpose.

So with all that said, I don’t know what could even be done about this. The only answer would have been if some highly intelligent AI could oversee these runs and decide, lol.

The debuff introduced to prevent trolls to reque asap.

Sadly its a double-edged weapon, and can be used by toxic people as well. Once i (long time ago) qued with guild for rhc, and they kicked me out at the final boss as a “joke”. I left the guild after obviously.

One of the worst changes ever made to prevent a problem that would go away after a week.

That change was the living proof that community should not be listened to sometimes.

If you are leaving early or you are playing a tank and dont even know when to use your defensive skills up and get kicked from the dunegon then yeah …

This was added, was because you’d get a Healer or Tank who would be like “Oh, I don’t like this dungeon… Please kick me, so I don’t get deserter.”

So you can thank entitled Healers and Tanks for this change.

I was never ever got kicked from a group and I play a lot of lfg. I wonder if the kick and the penalty was deserved?

This situation happened in FF14. They introduced a deserter buff but it wouldn’t happen if you got kicked. The tank refused to do anything but we refused to kick. I made a ticket and the GM kicked them out!!

This would never happen in WoW, a GM wouldn’t respond to harassment tickets quickly.

In the very early days, depending on GM availability.

But nowadays since GM’s are undermanned and they moved from that policy they won’t do it indeed. Which leads to these kind of things :frowning:

Last weekend, my alt got kicked from Horseman because I clicked the pumpkin and started the boss. I was told that only tanks are allowed to click it

We can play together if you’d like

What they said was : we are working on a hotfix that will apply the deserter debuff to

  • people who LEAVE
  • a group finder DUNGEON early
    and
  • This penalty will apply to early leavers in all Group Finder dungeons

What we got was deserter debuff for

  • people who leave or are KICKED at any stage
  • a group finder dungeon or GROUP FINDER RAID
  • penalty for all group finder dungeons ALSO GROUP FINDER RAIDS

Where it gets interesting is that this hotfix was applied due to ‘loot leavers’ for specific trinkets. Moving that small handful of trinkets to the last boss was by far the easiest fix.

Now, ‘vote kicking’ has become a tool for toxicity. Vote kicking is something we need to keep, but the ‘hotfix’ was ‘bugged’. The hotfix differed from what they said it would do in every way possible.

Problem is…

Trolls are abusing it, I got kicked from a dungeon just before first boss while doing over 900k dps, nearest guy was doing 200k, reason given was “No way 900K must be hax”

If they want to keep the system, then give us a means of reporting those that abuse the system, there used to be a penalty, in fact we were originally promised that the penalty system would always be watched and monitored, it was introduced at the same time the chat got monitored, but now we have NO comeback if players are the victims of abuse of the system.

This is BLIZZARDS fault, they created the beast, they let it get to this state, no wonder players are abandoning the game!

If you were previously kicked mid-dungeon, this would’ve still applied. The hotfix specifically aimed at leavers mid-dungeon.

1 expansion back for Dragonflight at reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/vfgwwk/i_shouldnt_be_given_a_30_min_penalty_for_leaving/?rdt=49101

It appears it was already here atleast for the past one, but I’m quite sure for a few expansions already.

The debuff in question did not change in this regards. It was already preventing you from queueing for any matchmade PVE content.

It is not considered actionable abuse of the system, players are empowered to use the vote to kick system. If the VTK goes through, it is legitimate use.

There was a sorta penalty system, above here

Proposals so far include but not limited to:

  • “Just remove it” The darkest times will come back again
  • “Reduced cooldowns stacking upwards” so that if you aren’t kicked often, it starts with a minor debuff.
  • “Reduced cooldowns, stacking downwards” so if you’re in a “good” party, then when they surprisepikachu kick you at the end the cooldown is lower.
  • “Warning before Debuff” - When you get removed from dungeon you get a Warning but allows you to requeue, if you get kicked again you get debuffed on subsequent leaves.
  • “Add reporting for kicking” - This is akin FF where they investigate if someone is really, really using votekick so often and gets reported for it that often as well. WoW used to do this.

If you have a proper suggestion, you may submit it through the ingame feedback box. I also would like to know to see if the suggestion can be improved making it into a better experience for everyone involved.

People wouldnt like it but they could have just moved all boss loot to the end of the dungeon at m0 or higher. Include lfr in that to stop people leaving after 1 boss. Make them commit to the run.

/afk auto removes you like it does in bg’s with a scaling debuff. 5/15/30/60 mins which is reduced over time of not being removed for being afk.

Vote kick gives a warning to the player that the party is unhappy and the reasons why.

Timer in between any vote kicks of 5 mins.

Vote kicked from a dungeon does not immediately give you a debuff but consecutive leaves/kicks gives you the scaling debuff mentioned above.

Finally a commendation system that serves little purpose other than to show people you are friendly, finish runs and reliable within the dungeon system that is visable to other players (like a good reputation). Add an achieve at the end of every season for attaining x level of commendations. Its then reset for next season (similar to ffxiv)
