Return the Clone Service MEGATHREAD

It must have been, clones was introduced in May 2021.

I played on Classic TBC for a while, cleared Kara a few times and then my guild fell apart and my friends quit so I did too. After that I played mostly Steam games until I heard about Classic Era taking off again so I decided to try and clone my character.

Things don’t happen whenever you decide.

Honestly, I would love to get my 53 tauren shaman back to the Classic Era as I did not have the opportunity to clone it when it was available. So I think its now stuck in Wrath classic which I won’t even bother to install.

Then it is your own fault you didnt clone your character back then: cloning was possible while TBC was up.

Come back and remake your shaman from scratch, its fun with all the people currently playing!

I actually did clone my 50 warrior when TBC was released, but when i returned to classic december last year i saw this char i knew nothing about with a full bar of buttons i didnt remember anymore, so i deleted him (200 gold and all), and started from level 1 to learn everything again. Level 45 now and having fun

Why did you delete him? There are enough character slots to keep them both.

I wanted a clean slate start. With a high level char present, there would always be a temptation to use it to solve problems.

I also enjoy leveling, learning few spells/abilities at a time. Especially when I haven’t played a character for a while, I forget what all the buttons do.

For the last time, please bring this service back.

There is genuine interest, many can not post due to their accounts being inactive.

I post for three different players.

Blizzard this is a simple request.

Thanks, last post coming from me.

+1 to bringing back the clones.

Lol Baumgi. You already said you played TBC, raided Kara etc. So you didn’t miss the cloning, you just didn’t do it! /facepalm!

I didn’t do it at that time, had I known it was ending I would have done but Blizzard didn’t give us any warning before they removed the service, that’s my problem.

People only received a warning if they were either playing Wow at the time or following Wow on social media, which I wasn’t.

Had I received an email I would have renewed my sub just to clone.

You would pay to activate a clone on a server that was for all practical purposes dead at that time, with no perspective of ever recovering? Maybe you would.
(Heck i did, even tho it was at right after TBC release)

But in general, while Blizzard certainly could communicate the deadline better, i doubt it would make much of a difference in the end.

If I’d known it was my last chance to keep my thousands of hours of work, then yes, absolutely.

I didn’t want to clone at the start of TBC as my time was focussed on that expansion but I was always planning on returning to Era eventually, I just didn’t know that the ability to clone my character had a time limit.

@Baumgi.

I see all kinds of emails from Blizzard on things I have absolutely cero interest.

Yet my chars are going to be permanently deleted and I do not even get an email about it.

Three of us (real life friends) are in the same situation, none of us found out about this deadline.

We all have families and full time jobs, and its just absurd that we were given no email notice about this.

I really do not understand how keeping this service (and chars available) was such a taxing issue to Blizzard that they decided to wipe everything.

I´ve worked IT for 20+ years and we have to keep backups for 5+ years to be able to restore data for our clients.

Whole thing is a blunder that hopefully someone in Blizzard chooses to resolve.

My account is expiring shortly, my two friends did not reactivate to post here (nor will they, we are not giving Blizzard another dime unless this is fixed)

Over and out.

Wish everyone luck on this.

Oh and the toxic crew talking smack to the lot of us that lost characters, just remember that what goes around comes around. Sooner or later you will find yourself in a similar situation.

But they weren’t deleted they were moved to Wrath. Get your friends and everyone else to make suggestions ingame.

It’s not a matter of back ups, as they were already on the Wrath realms. Back ups were not needed on Classic Era.

Got a free 7 day trial for WoW a few days back. I have no max level characters in retail/wotlk so I thought it would be fun to play classic era for a bit and see if I could have some fun there and then decide if I will renew my subscription.

However, when I selected my old server, my characters were all gone. Came to this forum to find out what happened and damn, did that ruin my day. I remember when classic tbc came out I moved one of my characters to classic tbc and played it for a little while, but I did not move my other two level 60 characters there and I expected they would stay on classic era. I quit shortly after, before even reaching level 70.

To my knowledge I had to transfer my character to tbc myself, so I do not understand the reasoning behind moving all of the characters there. Would it not have made more sense to keep the characters on classic era? All the people that wanted to play tbc moved their characters to tbc manually…

Have no problem paying a small fee to retrieve my level 60 characters.

This makes too much sense for blizzard. Opt in for the non reversible conversion, but I guess they wanted to inflate the numbers for the expansions.

Exactly this, hopefully they’ll enable the cloning service again for the next Classic expansion to inflate the numbers again as I don’t believe for a second that everyone’s clones are gone, I don’t think Blizzard are that stupid (or at least I hope not)

@Ratz I’m in the same boat, my subscription ends in 10 days, I only renewed this time to play era. Like you I have family and busy real life so I’ve not been keeping track of what’s going on in WoW (gone are the days of me reading mmo champion every day at work!)

I had no clue about the cloning service stopping until it was too late and I was so gutted when I found out that I couldn’t clone my character across to era.

I started playing Wow in March 2005, I have played every single expansion since that date. I consider myself a loyal fan but I’ll never be renewing a WoW subscription again unless they bring back the ability clone.
