I never stated I don’t want it back. I stated it is NOT POSSIBLE to get it back.
But lets for fun say we clone one of your characters anyway. So first you select a character on Wrath you want “cloned” to Era.
Now come the fun part:
-
How do you prove how much gold you had at cloning time?
Answer is, you can’t prove that. A screenshot can easily be faked. But we can fix that by giving you 10g for free to start from.
-
How can you prove what gear you had at the time?
You can’t, but we can circumvent this by creating some lvl 60 communal-like gear. Forget getting Tier-3 items.
-
How can you prove what quests and attunements you had done at the time?
You can’t, but Blizzard can see what quests you have completed now (up to wotlk), so they could just mark all those completed on your Era char.
-
How can you prove you was actually level 60 (or even had a char) at the time?
You can’t. So you will start out with a level 1 character. Basically the same as rerolling.
Do you see the problem now? Without having the cloned data, Blizzard have no way of re-creating your character as it was when cloning was introduced.
This is not a question if we want cloning or not back (more players are always good) - but Blizzard has already confirmed the data is gone. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.

Its like saying “ur father gave u an option he didnt pull out - you should have not go off as well” guyz you should move on you have nothing positive to add in community by saying no to clones … ppl had characters that are no more in classic era… they are not in classic era we dont care where they gone… they lvled in classic era and they are not there… so please quit with silly excuses… They got every right to ask for the characters… Most of you say such kind of silly arguements ur not even part of classic wow community… so stop cringing on ppl playing something better than ur retail. Also data gone is not a valid argument

They were never in Classic Era.
They were in Classic, which evolved to TBC and WotLK just like vanilla was.
Characters belongs to Blizzard, not you.
But you completely missed the entire point: It is technically NOT POSSIBLE because there’s no way to restore the characters as they were.
Ok, instead of complaining you should tell us how cloning should work then. I want to see how you want to do that without backup data.

I missed out on the clones and cant really blame anyone but myself. Tbh I thought you had to make the decision right when TBC launched and wasnt even aware that you could still do it after making the initial choice.
That being said I’ve read the forums and the official statements from Blizzard. The wording was that the service is retired and the characters deleted.
The fact is that none of us really know if that means bringing the characters and service (perhaps in a slightly different format) is impossible or not.
I would first and foremost wish we could just get some sort of statement regarding this - a simple “its impossible” would be enough.
Is the silence due to internal considerations or just a standard communications tactic from blizzard?

Blizzard is not reading the eu forums, never have and never will, so thats why you wont get a response here
Im aware of that. Alot of posts are on the us forums aswell.
I wrote to CS - I guess the idea would be that enough people asking and commenting will at some point force the dev team to respond

My guess is that they (the higher ups) think that them saying its closed down and the data is deleted was enough so it would just be wasting time to have one of the devs go out and say it again.
I hope for everyone who wants their chars back that its not the case and what they meant was that the data is in deep storage for the time being. But I wouldnt hold out hope for a response anytime soon atleast.
Hey,
I am supporting they bring back the cloning (as it seemed to be called like that ). I am one of the great examples - I have put a ton of effort in (to level and gear up). Meanwhile I have my own family so I didnt have time till now. I did not receive an email explaining I had to actively do something in order to keep my classic character - it got transfered to BC and to WOTLK. It still has a weird placeholder name - @Blizzard - I am very much suprised you decided to make it the default to transition to BC instead of keeping it classic, especially as there is no boost in classic but in the others as far as I know. I am not interested in leveling and grinding reputation again so I will leave it like that and not play. I will probably try with a support ticket as a last resort. Hopefully this thread will receive the attention it deserves. Thank you by the way for bringing classic - loved it ! <3

You could Very well be right. Our only real option is to try and make some noise.
The business case could be interesting though. Was it 15 or 25 euro to begin with? Pr. Character.
If the data is there - how much time and money would it cost to bring it back? How many do you expect to use the service this time around? And I guess the next question would be: how Long do you keep the service up the 2nd time around?
The timing for bringing it back would be good now though. Alot of ppl dropping of wotlk and returning. And before any fresh/SOM

My ticket got denied promptly. Sad
Clones are now part of the history of WOW Classic. Look forward to new developments in Classic - hardcore mode and a new season.

I am sorely disappointed the way Blizz handled clones. I knew Classic Era would return but with TBC around the corner when I quit I knew classic realms were gonna be dead, and they were. I had no idea Blizzard cloned to Classic Era servers and not vice versa. I had no interest in TBC, nor Wrath and as such never kept up with clone services or their retirement.
Now I hear Classic is back in full but wait, my character is deleted for all points and purposes. A 60 lock in an expansion I never wanna play. All those hours leveling tradeskills, farming rep and doing dungeons and raids.
I want the fruits of that work back Blizzard.

A few faulty premises here.
Even IF clone data is lost there may be methods to check characters that are now in WOTLK whether they could be eligible for WOTLK. For instance characters with no experience past 60, no discovered TBC or WOTLK zones, who have no TBC or WOTLK-exclusive items. Or simply who haven’t been logged on since Classic, through such a strict criteria you would 100% prevent items being funneled from TBC and WOTLK to Classic. Otherwise there’s that risk but I think players would even take a wipe of non-bound items in order to have their characters restored.
Secondly not everything is about making money looking at the simple arithmetic. If Blizzard can win back sufficient customer satisfaction and old subscribers offering this service it would be financially sound even if the transfer fee wouldn’t cover the cost of the transfers themselves.

You can see very much of all this ingame. You look to Achievemnts you look to logs. There is loads of data in there.
Blizz deleted clone in Era, they not deleted all your data. It could be partially at least done, but could be expensive.

You mean making it available for over a year and letting you choose Era or TBC for free?
You don’t own any if it. Blizzard loan you them.
One little thing was all you had to do. Choose your expansion for each character.
It is not lost, it is permanently deleted.
They all cost money and something like that will cost lots of money. Just sifting though the data is costly in manpower. Not mention the code needed and it’s testing. It’s a lot of code to sift through and remove all TBC and Wrath gear.
It’s a BUSINESS, Blizzard are not going to do something that loses them money.
All you can do is start again. Cloning is not coming back, that’s why Blizzard deleted the data.

Achievement log does not show dates for Classic. Only achievements done after the WotLK pre-patch is recorded with the exact date.
Questie stores your level through time, but since this is just a third-party addon storing data anyone can tamper with, it is unrealiable as evidence.
You got heap of achievements on first log-in. With date stamp. If you did Classic Ach in Classic Ach shows Launch date (or first log-in date). Also tells how many deaths since created char in 2019

I mean you can see all the calssic Ach have all same date.
And data is much more in-game than you can see. All our deaths is always recorded since launch of Classic. I bet much more is - you see how much money, how many FPs ect ect Much data stored.
I don’t know of Questie - is addon, not ingame.
