Honestly I wouldn’t mind if the add-on API was to be removed completely.
(and I’m not really a purist of any sort, I currently use my fair share of add-ons myself)
Hah, im playing classic nubby
Thought you needed attention as you came here saying people should stop crying when nobody in this topic is crying about anything, which you could’ve known if you had actually read the comments instead of being a idiot and just screaming “Stop crying little crybaby !”
But hey, you got some attention now. Want me to read you a bed time story as well or you just need your Teddy bear?
Aww how cute, talking all tough here on a forum, mr keyboard warrior, if you dont like my posts read elsewhere , no need to wet your pants and get all upset little bird
Weren’t you the one who started talking tough telling someone to stop crying?
I just thought you needed some attention and gave it to you.
You’re the one that seems offended right now, want a cookie to ease the pain?
Why don’t you cry some more tears about the current state of WPvP like you’re doing in another topic or all out of tears right now?
Blah blah, you’re very original …not
It breaks the game, it’s akin to wallhacking in Counter-Strike, since players who do not use it simply do not have any way at all to target or be aware of people through walls and visual or mouse-click obstructing obstacles, while the /target macros it creates does.
As far I know you also can’t tab target through certain obstacles(though you could in earlier versions of the vanilla client) but this addon circumvents that. inb4 “people wallbang in Counter Strike without wallhack!!!”
Also, I think the combat log showing information about actions you could not have perceived with your eyes in the game is a bug.
I didnt know such an addon exist
That explains so many things happened to me wondering how the hell did he know im here!
Thats actually unfair to use such an addon
This addon is not that great as some people claim it to be. I would disable it when BGS start as I would not be able to take the constant noises which come as they come now when I land from flights.
No. I’m against breaking the functionality of it because it risks breaking a whole lot of other addons, and the idea of players deciding which addons should be allowed or not is, to put it mildly, moronic. Especially since (as demonstrated repeatedly in this thread) tend to exaggerate an addon’s capabilities.
No. Why should I?
No, in this context they’re considered mods that use in-game functions allowed by Blizz, and programs that use external functions or in-game functions that are not allowed by Blizz are considered third party programs.
But if you want to get into semantics, then your entire argument about cheating fall flat.
Yeah, because that’s absolutely the same thing.
This addon is absolute trash and needs to be disabled as soon as possible. It is completely breaking the gameplay. As an alliance in horde-infested zones, I have priests Mind Visioning me as I hide in the middle of nowhere because they found my name on Spy. This addon will only make people quit (especially alliance on unbalanced servers) without even knowning about it.
Sorry but you clearly have no clue what your talking about. Nameplates already exists and does let you see people through walls as long as its within 20 yards. I have used it and I’m sure there are plenty of other people that used it as well.
There are also potions like track humanoid if you really want to see people on the mini map.
And no not a bug, its been around for a long long time. Just stop expecting to be within 20 yards of anyone without them figuring out you are there. Re-roll night elf if your that concerned and get used to using shadowmeld, which I will also point out wont work very well unless you are out of the visual range of most players to start with.
Its saved my toons bum more times that I can count. : )
You can’t be serious saying stuff like that. Every addon gives you an advantage unless its completely worthless.
You do realize you can type /target “Name” yourself and you don’t need an addon for that?
You can disable the sound effects.
No, it (and others like it) did indeed exist in Vanilla.
VanasKoS, Paranoia, PvPWarn, Spellalert, etc… All vanilla addons that would warn you of enemy players nearby.
I cba searching for addon downloads from 2004-2006, but I could link you some screenshots from Vanilla that shows the VanasKoS button (and others with buttons for similar addons). There’d be nothing proving they actually are from Vanilla (apart from the shockingly crappy UI that I’d managed to block from my memory, maybe), but still…
Or just hotkey Target Nearest Enemy Player from the default ui.
Screenshots would be fine but they need to be uploads that were made during Vanilla, and to a site where it can be verified that they were uploaded on that day. Otherwise there is no way to tell where they came from.
Personally I don’t really even care if it existed in Vanilla. For me it is enough if the addon was possible to make using the api of the time, and it seems very likely that it was. But when it comes to evidence for a specific claim it really needs to be evidence that other people can verify.
If you mean were they available at US launch of WoW, I have no idea.
I didn’t start playing until 1.4 on EU. They might have been available then, but I didn’t use many addons (basically just UI stuff) until a few patches later.
But they were available well before 1.12.
As for Ciri’s statement, I used some of them myself during Vanilla, so I obviously agree that they existed back then too. And they’re no more advanced than most other addons that existed in Vanilla (even less so than than BigWigs, CTRA, and similar addons, I’d guess) , since they’re basically just combat log parsers that give alerts and notifications.
Spy addon should only be made available to the lower pop faction on a pvp server, to make it easier to deal with the vast population imbalance in high lvl zones

Loads of people have been banned back in the day for using add-ons that Blizzard deemed forbidden.
Evidence?

The spy addon heavily bends the rules of the Blizzard api
Spy addon does 100% what blizz allow it to do. How is that a rule being bent?

It has nothing to do with something being illegal or not.
So it’s not cheating?
Only uploads I have from Vanilla (on an ancient Photobucket account, no less) are with the UI hidden. Some pics of the Dark Portal opening, Kazzak (or was it the other one?) going nuts in SW, and such.
So all I have is the screenshots that have been laying around on old harddrives.
But still, here’s an example of two I used:
https://imgur.com/gallery/oRzKvcD
First screenshot shows the old VanasKoS button on the minimap (red V)
Second shows the UBotD (one of the names I’d forgotten) button and some a player who’s been tagged by it.
Third shows some of the UBotD panel (specifically the W/L list). Only reason I have the last two is because Kimpo was lvl 60 and on his way to ZG when he tried to kill two lowbies and got killed himself.
Edit: Just noticed the Silencing Shot on the action bars in the first pic, so I checked the date on it and it’s just a few days before the TBC pre-patch, so I’d call that a TBC screenshot really…

There was no Spy addon for pvp when the honor system was implemented on US servers.
Like I said, I didn’t play on US servers, so I can’t comment on what was and wasn’t available on them. Nor what was available pre-1.4.
