The character limit is just a facade

  • You can fully transmog your characters on a Starter Account (Limit is 1000 Gold)
  • Per account you can have to eight wow accounts with each having 50 characters
  • All your transmogs work on your LV10 characters (< SL).

Really don’t see the point in limiting the main account anymore.

What’s the relation between character limit and transmog?

From what I understood, one of the main reasons for a character limit is to prevent people from camping an endless amount of names.

I don’t think the character limit has any transmog-related reason.

What does transmog have to do with character limit?

Character limit is a DB design decision. DB storage DOES cost money.

It might be increased, but can’t be unlimited. Doesn’t matter how much cheaper it has become, storage still costs money, so the limit at infinity would be infinity

so you suggest extra 13 euro per month on main account in order to unlock +50 char slots? cuz activision aint losing all that moolah

I was about to mention databases. Some of them have limitations, data can become corrupt under certain circumstances (esp. with many large complex entries.) I haven’t worked with DBs in years though, but I remember some of my education on them.

pretty sure they saved a lot of money on poor server infrastructure the past 15 years (crz clownfest)

I have no information on their internal workings, please enlighten me. Provide data if available. Or are we just doing rabble rabble?

What I did was point out that the character limit exists for an, economic, reason. If you increase the character limit even if only a handful of people, not me tvym, go over the character limit, you must allocate server resources and DB space for the increased potential footprint.

Also I hope not, I really do, but also increasing the character limit could impact some other DB design considerations, which again would increase the cost greatly of such an increase for an, especulation on my side, small amount of players.

search for ‘‘lag’’ in forums . i mean if you play the game you understand.
in vanilla till wolk only lag from server was on very rare occasions and blzizard gave us some free-game-time as apology. now its a common occurence…even in BFA, any world assault quest, world boss quest, nzoth invasions…lagfest  and no its not ‘the rng’’ – its 50 ppll in a zone crashing the potato server

I understand this anecdotal evidence is important to you but irrelevant to the char limit conversation. I’m almost sure you understand this too.

exactly … 50 character per account is more than enough

you say they cant expand it because $ costs
i say they made lots of $ from cost cutting measures to allow 60-70 etc slots

With the new scaling changes you can have full-customized characters at LV10 on a Starter Account. You don’t need even to pay for another account if you just care to have many different character flavors!

you literally can camp 400 names (8x50) by today’s account rules.

I would like to see this limit increase. If Blizzard can’t or won’t do this an universal change, then they could gate it behind a paywall. Make it a large one time fee, like 5€ per slot, or make it a small increase in number, just 5 or 10 more max.

Right now I could use another 4 slots, that is until they add another class or race. Hopefully when that happens they will consider increasing the character limit.

What were you smoking when this nonsense popped into your head?

I honestly think putting it behind a paywall wouldn’t really help matters much. Maybe adding the ability to link two accounts could work, but this too would probably not play nice with the billing processes.

If the limit is increased, or rather when it is increased, I’d wagger it’ll be something that will be added to all accounts. The when is key here, ofc, so perhaps it would make more sense when more races and classes (specially classes) are added?

Not really adding much to the conversation today. Slow day at the office I guess.

delete character which u dont play

I personally have 12 chars at cap, two bank alts and a couple of strange chars on other servers for no real reason. So not affected by this limit, or ever will be. Some people do feel strongly about their army of chars which is why this limit is relevant to them though, and deleting is not really a good option for them.

what is point of having 50 + characters when u cant play all of them
