Whats wrong with Feral druids?

The obvious total lack of interest in touching the spec is absurd. Feral started bfa with an absurd rework based on AutoAttacks when it is a hit and run based spec (based on bleeds, utility and mobility) and they had to revert it, the state of feral in early bfa was tragic, guardian druids with a pvp talent would have more damage than actual ferals… Then they reverted it and left the feral spec untouched the whole expansion, now feral bases 50% of the dmg in ferocious bite, and bleeds are just an ornament, they don’t deal any damage, thrash is just a waste of energy points from the total lack of damage it affords, rip is just a tiny amount of damage in your rotation and the utility druids always had is not non-existing in feral spec.
And now shadowlands comes and we only get 2 reworked optional and already existing talents… It’s a big lame, a really really big disappointment for a whole community who enjoy this spec.

Yeah I missed old feral as before funny. When Legion and BFA made worst.
I switch moonkin, still make me sad. I don’t get why blizzard ruin it.

Feral needs a rework into a bleeds based class, and not some cheap assa rogue.

It’s almost unrecognisable, in the Cata/MoP era feral was a ramp based rot class
Now it’s just some half baked rogue that just works around having ferocious bite crit as hard as possible for some sort of good fit into jungle cleave.

It was so satisfying in previous expansion going through this chain of opener build combo points, savage roar, build combo points, snapshot incarn/tigers fury and BAM, your Rip literally killed people by itself.

Bring back the rot feral playstyle

Afaik this is a massive issue for a lot of other specs too, namely:

  • MM hunter
  • Feral
  • Guardian druid
  • Blood DK
  • Enha shaman
  • Shadow Priest
  • Arcane mage
  • Frost DK
  • Holy priest

Note that I am not saying any of these specs are bad or in any way unable to perform well- They can, at least in some parts of the game. But they do play clunkily according to a lot of players and could do some with some tweaks and changes to make them feel good.

you forgot all 3 lock specs

I was debating with myself whether to add Affli and Demo there- I personally think they could use some changes too. Especially Demo could use some more instant procs for abilities like hand of guldan.

Enha shaman is bad?
I was feel elemental is worst for me. Since spells much cooldown long than enha.
Feel enhancement is better one. Still hope elemental could more better like echa.

What, you’re telling me melee-range Arcane Explosion spam that makes me go OOM isn’t a good thing?! Say it ain’t so! :joy: AB is cool and all but doing single target Arcane Blast on lower mana in a >3 pack is… painful…

I don’t hate Feral Druids, only Guardian Druids.

I dont think hate is right word, because it is gaming industry.

I’m not really sure what’s going on with Feral Druids myself. I play one quite frequently and it was my main for many years, but I can’t really work out what it is right now.

The bleeds really aren’t very powerful, but they’re still powerful enough that they need to be applied properly.

Result is that feral really can’t rot, but the class is fundamentally built around rotting, so it just gets a bit weird.

You kindda have to play Feral Frenzy with drest and bite and Maim to really be able to kill anything on a feral right now. It’s obviously not really where it’s supposed to be.

But more importantly, ferals don’t really have a lot of utility and stuff outside of their main form in general. The class got its identity of the dual role + being a Druid in the background taken away from it and then it got turned into some scuffed rogue.

Due to the total lack of utility and the complex rotation, feral druids are VERY unpopular. I went on the arena ladder and found out that there are literally 19-20x as many destruction warlocks as there are feral druids. That’s just ridiculous.

And then there’s the sound effects. Snuck in there with no patch notes. Sound awful. All feedback completely ignored.

Feral has lost its identity as a Druid, as a hybrid, as utility class, as a shapeshifter, as a rot class. It’s frankly ridiculous.

Shadowlands looks to be fixing some of this stuff, but it’s pretty dire right now.

EDIT: Context on the bleeds to really drive home how weak they are.

TL;DR: I made an addon that divides everything by 100 as a kind-of squish. These are the numbers you’ll likely see in the pre-patch, maybe a bit lower.

Here’s some numbers:
Max health: 5181
Shred: 104 damage
Rake: 62 damage tick
Rip: 50 damage tick

But bites hit for like 1.2k

I mean I’m not really sure what’s going on with those numbers. It just seems pretty absurd to me.

Isn’t enhashaman getting a relatively substantial change in their core mechanics though? Namely, the builder-spender maelstrom resource is going away completely.

I haven’t got alpha though so can’t say if the spec still remains closer to Legion-BfA than Wrath-WoD design in terms of how it feels to play.

if you want to play a bleed class apparently thats arms warrior nowadays… feral needed some proper work for years

I agree, nerf Destro and Fire.

Players/community don’t help either.
There have been tons of suggestions made in the past, and most of the time, they are being discarded by players (including druids sometimes) because of idiotic reasons like:

  • “hybrid tax”
  • “that would make feral mandatory”
  • “that would be OP”
  • “an AoE finisher is not useful”
  • etc.

Guess what ? Over the years, blizzard implemented a lot of ideas that were considered OP in some way or another by the players/community. And it was not OP at all. At best, it was lackluster.

I’d also like to add that:

  • “that would make feral mandatory”
yea, because right now a class that can AE stun or a hunter/rogue on skittish weeks are not considered mandatory at all.
  • “that would be OP”
Totally unlike mastery stacking firemages or roll-face-on-keyboard DH.
  • “hybrid tax”
this one I keep it for the end, because it’s amazing. Start a discussion about making druids an actual hybrid and you immediately get into hybrid tax neverending arguments. But at the very same time, people are just telling that “no when I DPS, I don’t want to tank or heal” and “there are no situations where a DPS that can become a healer is really desirable. I took a DPS for DPSing, not for offhealing/tanking.”
Sounds like hybrids are weak anyway. So why not giving us that useless ability ?..

People are dumb.

Enha is still lacking defensives (as are all shaman specs afaik). The degenerate play of ghost wolf damage tanking is still there too.

Fair. That’s too bad, was hoping they’d feel better with the more traditional resource mechanics.

It goes for a lot of specs actually. Arms would be damn near perfect if it had either a baseline self heal or stun. But thats a minor thing, easy to fix. Whereas the problems MM has for example is that its talent tree needs a complete rehaul and needs its identity reiterated.

Blizzard for some reason though would rather spend their time on working on borrowed powers than making classes feel good on their own.
